you didnt mention where the cats he killed were. if its on his property he can shoot it.

if its on your property, you can defend it, or charge him.

if they searched his property and found no gun, he obviously

hides it and its probably unlicenced. this is is weak point,

find where he hides the gun and film him shooting.

No, it is not. The local fauna have no defense against things that kill for sport. At least where i live. Cougars, yup, cats NO. If I see a cat I use my .177 pellet gun and shoot the fucker. Destroying a hummingbird out of a sense of 'play'...nope! So sue me. I'll eat the cat (see recipes above) but not the hummingbird.

I'm so sorry for you and your neighborhood cats. I have a cat that loves his freedom. He is so happy roaming the neighborhood. He does kill some birds, but also kills a ton of mice and sometimes a rat. We love him, but I understand people not wanting a cat in their yard. Every city has different laws about it. I'm lucky our cat is allowed to roam free.

I can't imagine your neighbors would approve of a neighbor shooting cats--I'd try to pressure him to move, otherwise if I loved my cats outdoor privileges enough I'd move myself.

On the other hand the truly enlightened thing would be to love the neighbor and make him feel like part of a great community where he wouldn't want to destroy his rep.

Buy a good quality Cat costume, trick or treat him with a basket of cat shit. put an add in the paper that he wants to take in all stray cats that cant find a good home, if he doesnt like it tell the cops he pointed the firearm at you, Call homeland security that you suspect he is makeing bombs and planning cat-tastrafies...

Just buy a bottle of good rum, two glasses and knock on his door, invite him for a drink and work the solution of the problem out in a neighbourly way, if he won't come to the party then call the news papper and give them a good story for the paper, with a photo of a crying kiddie who just had her cat killed by a gun toteing mad man.

Yes, it is illegal for someone to kill a cat even if on their property. There is no leash law for cats. And even though there is a leash law for dogs a person can not shoot one that is on their property unless they have livestock or unless the dog is attacking them.

Dogs and cats are considered personal property of yours. Ironically, even though it is against the law for your neighbor to shoot your pet, you can legally kill your own pet as long as it is humane.

Generally speaking the police and sheriff's are usually clueless about animal laws. I'd suggest you contact animal control instead of the police unless you are in an area of no shooting and want to report that also.

When you call animal control have your neighbors also give statements and put pressure on animal control to take this person to court. I'm assuming that you have proof that the man did actually kill the animals. Hopefully, your state's laws are similar to California's.

Sorry about your pet and your neighbor's pets. I used to come down hard on people like that.
