Fleas really bad this year...
Anyone else notice the fleas this year just won't die? Im in Indiana and I've never seen them so bad. I have 2 dogs and I've always been quick to respond to any flea problem that ever arose, but this year... they just won't die! I don't even think frontline works anymore, maybe the fleas are resistant to it now. I comb them everyday, give them flea baths, vacuum everyday, treated the yard, put borax everywhere in the damn house and keep them on frontline and a capstar once in awhile and it seems to do nothing. Maybe the radiation made super fleas, sweet baby jesus help us.

Diatomaceous earth..

get some ...eat it yourself..and give it to your pets..also put it on their bodies...you will see NO fleas..guaranteed..works with ants..etc..as well ;)
I snuck a bunch of booze into work today using my stomach

I can't stand it when people won't speak a little louder when I'm trying to eavesdrop on them. You people are selfish.

I've read to stay away from that because those tiny piece of algae are very abrasive and from what I understand its basically can do the same thing to you (or your pets) lungs that asbestos does. Thats why I use the borax.

Thanks for the suggestion :) Hell at this point im willing to try anything. My german shepherd just looks miserable. I freaking hate fleas. They are resilient little bastards, I was reading you can't even kill them while they are in their "caccon" hibernation state. All it takes is a little moisture and the bastards wake right up. This is going to be a long summer.

Yes..i think they really dont even respond to any of the flea programs..i think its making them bigger and stronger..sighs..I dont even know why a creator would create them!...they're horrible!

Besides shaving my pets bald..thats the only thing i found that would work..even frontline wont work anymore...sighs

Indy here, start checking him as soon as possible. All it takes is 1 to get on him and you'll have a full on infestation within a day. These suckers lay 50 eggs a day.

All these parasite bugs are making a huge comeback because the world has stopped using DDT. I don't care how bad DDT is for humans, nothing can be worse than fleas or worse bed bugs. I'm going to switch to advantix this time instead of more useless frontline.

Seems to be a bumper year for mosquitoes, spiders, and snakes around here. The tics haven't been bad though.

Table salt and baking soda. Sprinkle it on your floors and carpets and vacuum after a week. Repeat all summer.

Sprinkle baking soda on your furniture, let it sit overnight and then vacuum it off.

The salt and baking soda is eaten by the fleas and they shrivel up from dehydration. It also kills the larvae when it gets down in the cracks in the floor and between fibers of the carpet.

It also works for bedbugs and ticks too.

Re: Fleas really bad this year...
Diatomacious earth is indeed very bad to breath in. One issue with the fleas is that we have been breeding ones that are resistant to the standard flavors of poisons and pesticides commonly used on pets and in peoples homes. The best thing to do is vacuum as much as possible. Loose the rugs. Cleanliness is next to godliness.

Use Stronghold, the best on the market. They are little pipets, and it will kill all fleas and also protects from worms, tics etc.

Bad in Cali too this year. Ma poor baby is scratching like crazy even w/drops. I try and switch them up so the fleas dont build resistance. Also my vet has told me do it every 3wks not a month.

Re: Fleas really bad this year...
If you shampoo your animals with that flea shampoo (or any shampoo) too often, you'll cause more problems then you will help. By too often, I mean for animals even once a month may be too often, 1 time every 6-8 weeks would be better.

Shampoo strips away all of the skins and hairs natural oils. The kinds that help protect animals from insects. You get rid of those natural beneficial oils, and you will get fleas that find places to hide that won't ever die.

Not fleas, but the ticks have been horrible here. I never even saw a tick before until last year, when my husband and daughter picked some up on their clothes while going for a walk. And this year they've been insane. My father and husband both got "bit" by one, had to dig the suckers out, and it's taken all the fun out of geocaching because they're out of control.
