ARMAGEDDON the movie (1998): What I Saw (series #3)...(update: "DBDEGGTZ" decoded)

Not much in this one but interesting nonetheless. I'm trying to follow in order of release dates but I'm sure I may have to go back before 1997 to check out some movies I missed.

Two things about the movies poster: It's showing what looks like a solar eclipse if I'm not mistaken. The movie release date is July 1, 1998. It so happens that this coming July 1st will be a bizarre solar eclipse that is only viewable in Antarctica [link to www.space.com] ...only the penguins will get to see (...although we can't ignore the popularity of penguins lately: Jim Carrey's "Mr. Potter's Penguins" and the Royal couple Will & Kate who adopted a penguin from a zoo recently). It was also the actress Liv Tyler's 21st birthday (she played Grace Stamper- daughter of Bruce Willis' character Harry).

There's a relevance to the #16 coming up...

In the beginning, there was a scene of an astronaut repairing something, I think the engine, in the space shuttle Atlantis, while they were stationed in the ISS. Suddenly, the whole shuttle and station were being attacked by an unexpected meteor shower...what seemed like debris from what they find out to be an oncoming large asteroid in the next scene. Both the ISS and shuttle Atlantis were destroyed completely.

NASA's next shuttle mission of course is the space shuttle Atlantis, set to launch on Friday, July 8th at 11:26AM:

In the movie, the destruction of the shuttle happened on a Friday at 3:47AM.

There was a part in the movie that I unassumingly paused on for a brief break that revealed what the entire movie could be based on. A closeup of the area where the astronaut was working in the shuttle before the event happened had a series of numbers/letters in this order:

I could single out the 2004 but it could blatantly mean the actual year. What stood out to me was 16 REV.

Revelation 16 is the chapter on the 7 Bowls (or Vials) of Judgment during the end times. This comes after the 7 Seals (Revelation 6:1-17, 8:1-5) and 7 Trumpets (Revelation 8:6-21, 11:15-19). Most notably, the word ARMAGEDDON, the ONLY time it appears in the Bible, is in Revelation 16:

"And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon." ~ Revelation 16:16

This verse appears in the Book between the 6th and 7th bowls of judgment, in it's entirety:

Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. ~ Revelation 16:12-16

The movie release date adds up to 16 (noted above).

SO what does bowls/vials have to do with a massive asteroid that was about to destroy the earth? Well it only means one thing...the 7 Bowls of Judgment, as well as the premise of the movie Armageddon are both the WORST of judgments to happen. Therefore, it is considered an ARMAGEDDON.

I honestly don't get the idea that Bruce Willis' character Harry Stamper, who ran an oil drilling business, is tied in any way with the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil spill event. Maybe someone here would know?

The asteroid was named "Dottie" and was the size of Texas. Traveling at 22,000mph, it was headed for the Pacific Ocean, which would've caused a three mile high tidal wave, traveling at 1,000mph.

The rest of the movie was filled with a long and dramatic astronaut training session. Harry Stamper & his oil drilling honchos-turned-astronauts then flew in the X-71 shuttle to the Russian ISS, to refuel and meet up with another shuttle, which each were named "Freedom" & "Independence".

Here are some random scenes/phrases that stood out to me throughout the rest of the movie:

~ Harry Stamper was shown embracing daughter Grace before the mission, while a plaque nearby read "AD ASTRA PER ASPERA" meaning "A rough road leads to the stars". It was in memory of the first Apollo mission.

~ 2 drill tanks named "Armadillo"- to drill 800ft deep into the Dottie asteroid to plant a gov't (mind you) remote-controlled nuclear warhead, to then split it in half in time before it impacts the Earth.

~ More portions of the Dottie asteroid landed in:

Manhattan, NY

Paris, France

Shanghai, China (the platform/landing pad on Harry Stamper's oil drill structure had the words "CHINA SEA")

~ The Russian ISS was destroyed as well, due to gas (?) leak...both Freedom & Independence shuttles got away in time.

~ A note on a red card from the President with the order to activate the nuke read "DBDEGGTZ"...very interesting but could not figure out the meaning.

~ Later, the astronauts frantically tried to stop the nuke's countdown by taking off the clockface. There were 2 wires, red & blue (of course) to cut...the blue was the chosen one that stopped it.



That's all! This movie did come out two months after DEEP IMPACT so 1998 was definitely a double asteroid doom year !
