How does one become a foreign missionary, with nothing more than lint in your pocket & a "GRAND IDEA"
If a person wanted to travel to a foreign country; lets say somewhere in the middle east, russia, china or india. Said person does not have much more than a handful of dollars, the inner motivation & strength of 10 people and an idea within that "Gives for the sake of Giving". This person who this idea has become is asking for someone who may know steps and directions towards this goal.

Most that become missionaries do so with a particular church or organizational backing. If you are not affiliated with either you could try contacting some or what about the peace corps? Do you have any particular skills or talents that would be helpful? Building, educational, medical? Anything? Desire is great also.

It's awesome that you want to help others.

If you're meant to go...you will go.

Pray about it and trust God.

Not doubt, just a new set of doors put before a man.

Correct, new doors have been presented before a man. He enters an arena for the sake of his spritual life, knowing that the animals that will attack are only there as show. He knows he will win, as the greatest gladiators knew.

A man does understand this concept you speak of, and he knows about the trust in "God". The question was not posed as a final solution, but as a window as if to peer out with human eyes. Only to see a new world as it would appear before opening the door and stepping through.

THEY GET A JOB, WORK THEIR ASS OFF AND DONATE THAT EFFORT TO THEIR CAUSE, WHY SHOULD SOMEONE ELSE PAY FOR YOUR MESSAGE?

MOST RELIGEOUS MISSIONARIES DO THIS SAVE FOR PERHAPS PASTORS OR HIGH LEVEL CLERICAL TYPES THAT ARE SENT BY THEIR CHURCH, BUT TO GO THAT ROUTE YOULL LIKELY HAVE TO PUT IN THE EFFORT TO SAY GO TO SCHOOL OR SOMETHING..

If it religious missionary work you're after then join a church based NGO mission there's loads aroung, although you have to have some relevant skills or something to offer. If it's just to help others in need try see if there some voluntary or peace corps type of assignments. Other than that get a masters in business, law and/or international development and try joining the big institutional gameplay.

Sadly it's not easy to just travel and get involved these days..it should be, but the world doesn't operate like that anymore, to many border and laws...but still worth ago if you are keen to try..as they'll only kick you back home again.

so an empath you arent, lemme put it to ya this way, god helps those that help themselves, noone is going to invest in a business that doesnt exist.
go do something, whatever it is you think is worthy of this higher contribution, at some point if someone else thinks it is worthy they will contribute, until then want in one hand and shit in the other...
the miracle might be a huge dollar donation from a miraculous source, but it wont manifest from nothing, you have to get the ball rolling, and if the miracle does just pop up out of nowhere, youd better examine the motives of the deity responsible.devil6

Up until this absolute moment that I am responding to you, the said miracle would have been a blessing in my former self's heart, with my former mind's thinking. I now, and just now understand exactly what you mean by this, your last sentence in your statement. Praise the Lord & thank you, acquiring that which we feel we need is just that which we only felt would help the need. Money doesnt buy happiness, money does buy motivational doors. If the motivation is flawed to start with, said doors are all evil and posess evil paths. Whereas using the statement of the window before choosing a door, allows one to verify and justify ones own intentions before taking a path through a one way door. A window can be built as strong as a door. Although if we perceive the door as a shift in direction, than the door and the window both do not exist. It is only time that you can perceive as the window, door and direction. This removes all evil intents allowing one to make a sanctified decision rather than a justified one.

Re: How does one become a foreign missionary, with nothing more than lint in your pocket & a "GRAND IDEA"
My cousin has an aunt (not my side of the family) who's husband left her with five young children.

She worked and supported the kids until they were all grown and out of the house (college/marriage/work).

In that time she'd discovered a calling to become a missionary.

But, no established church would have her, due to her being divorced. (even tho' she was the victim of the divorce, not the instigator)

One of her more successful kids bought her a plane ticket to Honduras.

She landed on the ground with basic gear--nothing spectacular.

And, she began spreading the Gospel. This was years ago.

She's been there for years, has managed to establish a school, and various other relatives are occaisionally able to send her basic gear, books, a microscope, stuff like that.

I'll send the url of this thread to my cuz, maybe he'll be able to better tell you the story. Maybe the story will be of some use to you.

Re: How does one become a foreign missionary, with nothing more than lint in your pocket & a "GRAND IDEA"
HEY CUZ

Well OP its a hard thing to just go and do. First, no organization will send someone to the mission field if you have a small children(unless you have proven to the church that your family is worthy), like serving as a volunteer youth pastor for several years. Through a church you get sponsors, people that will pray for you daily, help by donating monies so you can afford to be a full time missionary, and also so you can pay for your small kids to be in a private school in the country you end up being sent to. Also, if you have tons of debts and such, you will not be sent to the mission field. If you want to go it alone you lose the umbrella that a church family provides. In Central America the Assem. of God is the big player, and say the country you live in for missions suddenly gets unstable, they will try and guarantee your safety, and at least get you to a US military base in the region to fly your arse home. Our military is currently in over 150 countries, so you can usually get a free ride out of harms way. That is if you have a church group you are working with. If you go it alone, they have mercy ships that leave from the west and east coast, volunteer on one of those. They are basically decommissioned love boats that get converted into hospital ships and travel to disaster areas on Christian relief missions. But they need cooks, engine room guys, whatever you think you can do to help, but do not allow children in tow, no room on board for kids. Also, you can hire on as an English teacher in a fourign country, earn some money, and support your own mission, doing your volunteer works after you have earned your rent and food. Most developing countries have small private Christian schools that teach the middle class English so they can come to English speaking colleges. When you land in a fourign country get to know the American Embassy, try to learn the local language and customs before you make a arse of yourself, do your research online first! Buy bibles in a local language to give away for free, not take english translation ones, live in the word dont just be able to quote it, and have other Christians pray for you each and every day, and use local wifi, probably through a cell phone(yes they work in the jungle)to check in with local friends daily. Get to know the locals, and the local missionaries, there are web blogs for missionaries, its a small jungle down there, they all know each other.
All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us.-Gandolf the Gray
