Also: candles cans of Sterno sugar chocolate butter and cheese (both can be canned and stored at room temp indefinitely) powdered eggs (I'm experimenting with making my own; so far, so good) jerky and pemmican canned tuna, salmon, kippers, sardines (good protein, easy to eat) Frankly, I think the real gold is knowledge and skill. Being able to kill birds and animals and dress the carcass. Knowing what plants are edible. Knowing how to build a good shelter from scavenged materials. Knowing how to safely manage human waste so it doesn't cause disease or stink up the place. The ability to build makeshift stoves from odd materials (more efficient than campfires). People who are resourceful and creative, who are good at using their hands and brains together, who like tinkering and making do with whatever is at hand, will do better than those who are lost because there's no WalMart anymore. The real gold, even in good times, is what you carry between your ears. All the rest is a nice bonus.

I guess my concern is that, if water is at a premium, TP would be ideal. Plus, you can use it as a bandage with some electrical tape.
