You won't like this but most Europeans consider Americans to be very loud and rude and to us you are.
It's a cultural thing, not necessarely personal or snobism (although it may be sometimes).
Your table manners are horrible compared to how we are brought up and even if you do make an effort you talk very loud.

I've sat next to Belgians, Germans, Brits, French and Spanish, that could all turn one's stomach watching them eat. The brits are big on talking and eating at the same time, and the rest just seem to be shoveling it in (continental style of course). So we eat with our right hands, it tends to slow us down a bit so we don't look as if we're literally shoveling directly from plate to mouth. Get a mirror out and watch yourself eat. You will be appalled.
