Don't know if you care about the origins of the original logo but here it is: It was designed by an employee who would add the initials after his signature to indicate his place of employment. (this seemed to only be done on his business correspondence). The higher-ups noticed it and asked to use it as the logo. Thats it. No nefarious purpose - just some guy initialling his place of employment.
