Much of the volcanological work carried out in north Afar (Ethiopia and Eritrea) has focused on the nature of Quaternary basaltic volcanic ranges, which have been interpreted by some as incipient oceanic ridges. However, we show here that comparable volumes of silicic magmas have been erupted in the region. In particular, the virtually undocumented Nabro Volcanic Range, which runs NNE for more than 100 km from the margin of the Danakil Depression to the Red Sea coast, has a subaerial volume of the order of 550 km3, comparable to the volume of the much better known Erta’Ale axial volcanic range. Nabro volcano itself forms part of an enigmatic double caldera structure with a neighbouring volcano, Mallahle

I did look to see if that had been in the area, yes it was.
I'm not swayed on that theory though, albeit an interesting one.

these quakes have popped in an almost dead straight line, over 16 miles, just 10 miles from Dubbi volcano.

No way of knowing just yet, the volcano isn't documented very well so we will have to wait and see.

well I think that there is a bigger caldera forming down there...lot`s of eruptions have been there in last centuries...lot`s of water and very powerful eruption:)

No, never, they wouldn't.

I'm just fanning the flames, I still find it 'all out there' that they could do this from a craft, but my my mind is open.

Interesting swarm, indeed.
The quakes are concentrated along the Bidu volcanic complex comprising both Nabro and dangerous Dubbi volcanoes.
According to GVP, “Nabro is the most prominent and NE-most of three volcanoes with large summit calderas aligned in a NE-SW direction SW of Dubbi volcano. These three volcanoes, along with Sork Ale volcano, collectively comprise the Bidu volcanic complex.
Dubbi, located east of the Erta Ale Range and south of the crystalline basement rocks of the Danakil Alps, is a large volcanic massif that rises to 1625 m above the western shore of the Red Sea. About 20 small cinder cones are located at the summit, and extensive basaltic lava fields to the north and NE, known as the Edd lava field, cover an area of 2700 sq km and reach the Red Sea coast. The two most-recent eruptive centers are fissure systems that extend NW-SE and NNE-SSW. The former produced lava flows that reached the Red Sea in 1400 AD. The second created 19 small craters at the summit in 1861. Ash fell more than 300 km from the volcano. Two villages were destroyed and more than 100 persons were killed during Africa’s largest eruption in historical time. Lava flows from the 1861 eruption traveled as far as 22 km and reached the coast.”
