the things that people and tv shows call ghosts are spirits but they are not the spirits of people who have died.

The Bible forbids communing with "familiar spirits". These are demons/devils that impersonate someone you know. They may know info that only you and aunt June knew but the spirit is NOT aunt June's spirit. The dead cannot return to commune with man except in very very very special cases by GOD's hand.
