If they need to alter anything it should be the aggression/rage gene. Instead they are encouraging that kind of behavior, at least here in the US.
I'm not sure that I believe this story though as it wouldn't be that simple, and getting rid of religious impulses would do nothing to stop people from fighting, they'd just find other things to fight about.
If they really want to breed out religious impulses, it's to take the place of God the way all totalitarian governments do.

We don't have much say in anything anymore. America is turning into a modern version of the Soviet Union, with some differences but our freedoms and privacy are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
