Second they are crying because the government is not helping to rebuild the damage. I spoke with a friend down in AU and he said the people feel helpless. Word on the street is they know there is a > 90% probability that NZ is going to be shut down by a major EQ less that 1 year and so they won't bother with the rebuild, just simply relocate the people until further notice.

Third I dont think you ever lived through an EQ. Its emotionally distressing. You have no idea. Don't worry though because soon enough you will experience an EQ that will shake your little panties off.....

The magnitude of a quake is only one factor in determining how damaging it is going to be. A 9.0 quake 20 miles away and 100 miles down will do less damage than a 5.5 quake 1/2 mile away and 1 mile down. The type of quake also is another major factor. Comparing just the magnitude shows your ignorance.

If a house falls on your head, it's going to hurt just as much no matter the cause.
