WOW... Check out the pattern developing in transaction volume on the 5 year GOLD chart!
Check out the pulses in the volume graph below the 5 year chart.

Anybody else see some automation behind this?

I'm not really sure whatit means, but it does not appear to be a natural occurance.

I would never disagree with this statement, but what exactly are they doing?

Those pulses in traffic appear like clockwork. The market itself appears to be fairly linear, but those patterns of 5 high traffic bursts, followed by a small traffic burst appear far too regular. Then the market climbs steadily after each small traffic burst.

I find this verrrry curious.

Perhaps somebody can post a screengrab of that 5 year chart?

The period between each volume spike appears to be almost exactly two months. Five large spikes, followed by a small spike, followed by a rapid climb for two months. Then the whole process repeats... again, and again, and again.

This looks very, very predictable.

OK, genius, maybe you can share your brilliance and explain what is causing this obvious pattern?

I think Ted Butler has a good explanation, can't remember the article but I think he has the best theory out there.

If it was a 5 minute chart then maybe you could say it's automation.

On a weekly chart though, it just appears to be the normal seasonal/quarterly cycles.

If you could find the data, you might try Another's approach and overlay oil sales from Saudi Arabia on top of the chart. Then you would see a correlation between the oil sales to the US and the overall gold sales. Maybe.

You'll see patterns on all futures contracts with monthly expiration dates. Really no mystery here. Natural ebb and flow of the markets.

That said, there is almost certainly some manipulation going on behind the scenes but it won't be that obvious.
