Why Don't People Understand that Too Many Tattoos Make Them Look Trashy?

I am thinking in terms of stereotypes which is what this thread is based on. I don't think tattoos are part of the religious stereotype.

As I read it, you are suggesting that those who get tattoos are secular and live an "alternate life style" . . . but that's not a given. I don't know the stats, but I'm sure that the number of tattooed religionists is quite high.

And you seem to have equated religion with being clean-cut, which is also not necessarily true.

lol, I have a tattoo - it's on my side, nobody sees it b/c I never wear clothing that shows off my midsection. I got it to remember a country I had the opportunity to visit that I never imagined possible. It's the symbol of the flag for the country and it means a lot to me. Personal value for me, but I can't speak for others and neither can you... Thanks for being so judgmental though.

A flag tattoo to remember your vacation? How about a nice postcard or a scrapbook? Slides perhaps? Oh brother.

No one gets tattoos to be judged or looked at differently that's just stupid. I can't speak for everyone, but majority of people who get tattoos get them for themselves, not for other people to look at and judge and it's just their way of portraying their emotions..Honestly most people's tattoos tell stories, for example my biggest piece is a tribute to myself surviving neuroblastoma cancer when i was young.

You can claim it's all for you all you want, and maybe it is. But most of the people I ask "why did you get such a large tattoo?" They all say the same thing. "I thought it would look cool." Meaning, "I wanted people to notice me."

But you're right. I'm sure most people get them, just so they can hide them and admire themselves in private.

Like i said i can't speak for everyone...but there are people out there who do get them for real reasons that's all i'm saying.

The only difference between tattooed people and non tattooed people is that tattooed people don't care that you don't have them. If it offends you, be offended but keep your personal preference to yourself.

I got a 5 inch Japanese dragon tat on my right arm where the shirt sleeve covers all of it most of the time. At most the front claws show if the sleeve is shorter.

I paid $100 for it at a shop in '83 and one was enough for me. The outline itched for a long time but hasn't for years. Some of the colors have faded a little over the years and if I was more into it I'd get it touched up but it still looks good.

I was going to get a sexy red devil girl with big tits and a tail but decided n the dragon. :p

The problem is that today no one know who they are truly so they try to get a kind of identity with marking on their body.

A lost generation with no future ahead that might explain the matter partially.

People with tattoos are statistically more likely to engage in promiscuous and reckless behaviors, such as drinking, drugs, smoking, etc. which CAN, in many different ways, affect ALL people, including innocent people.

That might be YOUR opinion, but it is NOT your call.

Yeah, when people have to continually tell others that kind of stuff, you pretty well know they're trying to convince themselves more than anyone else.

My husband and I have some tattoos. I really do not concern myself with people who consider it to be trashy. We are secure in ourselves and know that we are people of good character. If someone looks down upon me because of my tattoo, that says more about that person than it does about me. I prefer not to associate with small-minded people, so it's really in my best interest that such a person would avoid me based on my appearance.

I dunno, some women are pretty attractive with tats IMO.

I know some nice people with tattoos, but I don't know any trashy people without tattoos.

Why do people who have money go out and buy furniture that all matches from one room to another across an entire house? BECAUSE THEY DON"T KNOW IT LOOKS LIKE A KITCHEN MAID WAS THEIR DECORATOR, that's why! Good taste, and common taste and vulgar taste are three different things. And if people of means are only exposed to common or kitchen help tastes, that's what they'll buy once they have the money to afford it. Just smile at them and know what kind of trash they really are. They cannot help it. Although with education, travel, and training the can ovecome their matchy-matchy tastes (sometimes!)

You must realize that it's YOUR opinion that too many tattoos make someone look trashy. Through other eyes, they may look cool, or beautiful, or something other than trashy. Everyone has their own perspective on everything. Different people see things differently. Too each his own, we are all not the same.

I understand that some people look dirty that have tattoos but who are you to judge. Some high class people without tattoos cheat and have AIDS and you would never know. Trust me. I have seen alot in my line of work. Most people who have tattoos are cleaner than those who do not.

All types of people. About 80% of the people I work with and have worked on have tattoos. Surgeons, priests, lawyers, judges, accountants, and many more. Some are obvious but most are hidden. Regardless, we are all the same. Life in general does not look outward. We all have bills, bleed, feel pain, go through life trying to figure ourselves out. Our choices are our own to make. Stop judging and worry about your own life.
