We have several hundred years worth inside the U.S. borders. Oh, wait. We might have to dig into the earth in a few places, and both natural gas and coal produce that deadly, forbidden gas, CO2, that makes plants grow faster. On second thought, you're right, we need to stay with DNA-mutating, cancer-causing and life-ending radioactive isotopes that contaminate the earth for thousands to millions of years. I shouldn't have been so hasty suggesting natural gas and coal; besides, I don't want GE Corp. and the utility cartel to suffer a financial loss from shutting down nuclear power. And where would we continue to get the uranium necessary to build more nuclear bombs if we don't keep those nuclear plants working full time? Are you prepared for your electricity bill to double, triple, quadruple? Do you have a plan to replace those megawatts? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1309528 |

They had a visitor's center, where you could learn all about how great nuc power was. The thing that struck me as ODDER THAN HELL, even as a kid, was how they had built it a home-run-hit's distance from an elementary school. That was the schtick back then--build nukes near schools to prove how utterly safe and reliable they were. |

Corkinway User ID: 1432485 United States 06/17/2011 03:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am displeased with where nuclear power is heading. I have diligently contacted many politicians in my state. Each one sends me a letter saying how "safe" nuclear power is, how "nothing" could ever happen to "ANY" nuclear power plant here. One even said that only "earthquakes and tsunamis" posed risk to power plants. They went on to state flooding was virtually impossible at the plants elevation, and major earthquakes only happen every 10,000 years in this region. I responded to each of their letters, requesting they to prove the safety of nuclear power. I requested they move their residence and offices next door to the nuclear power plant, and bury the waste in their own back yard since it was so safe. I also tell them they are corrupt for not putting the health and safety of citizens above the NRC. Not one politician ever responds after my second letter. |

CITIES; CESIUM-137 in VERMONT MILK" Radiation from Japan has been detected in drinking water in 13 more American cities, and cesium-137 has been found in American milk—in Montpelier, Vermont—for the first time since the Japan nuclear disaster began, according to data released by the Environmental Protection Agency late Friday. Milk samples from Phoenix and Los Angeles contained iodine-131 at levels roughly equal to the maximum contaminant level permitted by EPA, the data shows. The Phoenix sample contained 3.2 picoCuries per liter of iodine-131. The Los Angeles sample contained 2.9. The EPA maximum contaminant level is 3.0, but this is a conservative standarddesigned to minimize exposure over a lifetime, so EPA does not consider these levels to pose a health threat.
