WTF!!!!! Man burns himself to death to avoid US debtors prison!!!

Really? I lost. I am a middle class mother with a Masters Degree in Marketing. My ex and I split and he took our kid to a small town he grew up in 100 miles from the major city I live in. I filed for custody here in the major city, but felt that it was my obligation to notify him that I had done so. He and his mother rushed to file their own custody case in the small town. The small town deputized his mother so she could drive 100miles back to me and personally "serve" me the papers. (all this time my major city was still processing my paperwork) Because my ex served me first, the court case had to be held in this small town. This small town doesnt like big city folk, and in the court hearing we both got joint cutody BUT********* he was awarded "custodial parent" (even though his income is barely over poverty level and he and his girlfriend are on wellfare) AND*******GUESS WHAT?? I was awarded to pay child support to him every month, with only visitation rights to my daughter.

This was 4 years ago. I have recently taken him back to court to get half the time with my daughter(because that is what joint custody is suppose to be about...not this stupid visitation crap of only once every other weekend) and so, it is more equal now-but I still pay him...AND he and his girlfriend now have two kids of their own, still on foodstamps and medicaid..living in a really bad part of the city, and my daughter suffers.

I have an older daughter who is starting middle school this year (not from this relationship) and I am putting her in a private school. I begged my ex to please let me put my other daughter in a private school too, because she currently attends a highly over-populated city district school that is in a bad area.
He told me no...and I can do nothing because he has been granted custodial parent.

So, as you can see....WOMEN DO NOT ALWAYS WIN. Even those of us who are educated and responsible.

It's these crazy court systems who really win. All in all, it's always the system that wins.

That's what happens when the fucking divorce laws aren't reformed and the women ALWAYS FUCKING WIN. ALWAYS. ALWAYS.

I've never seen a case where the wife lost. Never. Doesn't matter if the wife have a $200k a year job and the father is unemployed. The wife wins. Every time.

This was not some random crazy guy.

I wonder how many actually took the time to read what he had written and were able to grasp the message of frustration.

This wasn't just only a system against the men, but a system against the families.

While men are targeted I'm amazed how some women really think being free white and over 21 is such a good thing.

Trust me when I say, women have all the power these days. And they wonder what happened to MEN these days.

There is no debtors' prison per se (that went out with the mid 19th century in the US). But having said that, bad finances and the desperate want for money, does prompt some people to commit crime (aka doing stupid things). So in many ways, prisons today are a defacto sort of debtors' prison if you land in the clink because you committed a crime to rectify a poor financial situation. This can range from shoplifting a can of grated cheese at the convenience market to robbing a bank and everything in between.

Too bad this guy had no regard for his child. Bad business decision that shows bad character. A reward of death vs paying back 3gs, perhaps a little JAIL time (not even real prison time)and being somewhere for your child makes no sense. But that's our society. Most people are poor planners and most have absolutely no clue about risk/reward and will take the perceived easy way out even if it amounts to dousing oneself with gasoline and lighting a match. pure insanity. What a waste of all too precious life.

How is he supposed to pay the 3g in jail?

Once you are arrested its almost impossible to find a job.

If you cant find a job to pay the child support they throw you in jail.

Its a stupid system. They should work with the person paying child support to help them get a job instead of putting them in a situation where they can never pay it off.
