YES, I read the entire thing.

The man was sane, rational, and obviously bright. His frustration came through loud and clear.

I am so horrified at what this man did to himself. However, I understand his desperation. But I must clarify, I was the wife and they don't ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS WIN.

AC you are wrong and I have the legal docs to prove it. It's not always the father/husband that loses. I received nearly half a million dollars in debt from HIM to prove this fact. My ex husband walked away with ZERO debt, all of the possessions, all of the equity of the home, even my personal possessions. I received NOTHING, not a penny and his attorney even had the balls to ask me to pay for his divorce. All while he was making over 75k a year and me with no home and no job, after nearly 27 years of marriage! For my spin on it all, three weeks later he married, his best friend's daughter, our former baby sitter.

In retrospect and the help of a lot of 'new' friends and my fiance, they feel my ex was hoping I would do just as this man did and set myself on fire in front of the courthouse, or something akin to that.

But you are right the 'family' court system in this country sucks. There is almost always a huge loser in this system and yes, it 'usually' is the husband. After years of research, the only other country where I have found cases similar to mine are in the Middle Eastern Countries.

Now for the man's side of the story. I personally know of two men that cannot make it, after they are garnished nearly 50% of their wages for child support. They are darn close to suicide, and that's just wrong.

IN ADDITION, there is a stigma associated with divorce. The only reason these crooked lawyers and judges get away with what they do is because it is ASSUMED, you must have deserved it, or it is ASSUMED that you are just 'sour grapes' or BOTH. No one will listen. The real fact of the matter is that Divorce Court aka 'FAMILY' Court is nothing more than 'good ole boy' politicking and the ability to pay. If you cannot pay those ridiculous fees, you lose, plain and simple.

... AND please don't go into Legal Aid. HA!

I might add that now vs just 20 years ago, a divorce fee is based on a percentage of the gross wages in the household EACH, not the reasonable amount of hours needed for the case. I was shocked to learn when seeking an attorney in the beginning of my ordeal, that the fees for a divorce were based on a percentage of what my then husband was making annually. That's not right. Try and fight it, the eyes begin to roll!

Just as with everything else in this country, there is a loophole. There IS debtor's prison and IT is called CONTEMPT OF COURT!

EVERY friend of mine who divorced an attorney got completely SCREWED, both on the divorce itself and the child support. That's because it truly is a "good ole boys' club...."

sorry for this situation...I have been though YEARS of this child support stuff and you can present evidence about your ability to pay or not pay and there are laws to protect BOTH parties

This is a good point, the prisoners may be worked by the Prison Industrial Complex.

And all the "Catch 22's" especially for males (and white ones in particular, but in different ways) may not be accidental. We're being replaced by high breeding cultures with family values. Meanwhile we're scared to death to have kids for fear of stuff like this happening, so we provide no competition for these newcomers.

I don't think women get an especially great deal from this clusterfuck either. I don't personally know any women who want to survive by destroying mens' lives. (Well I have known some but I have better taste in friends and don't know them any more.) Society is screwed up for them too.

If you note in the guy's farewell letter, the wife did NOT choose to call the cops. The shrink she called for advice forced her to do it. The system sucked this case into its bowels against the will of BOTH parents.

We would not have so many screwed up kids, and screwed up marriages, in our country if the system were trying to help people, or just LEAVE THEM ALONE, rather than create failures.

How is a dad supposed to feel when one must pay child support but is hardly allowed by the court to visit the children? Heck in the case we're discussing, if the authorities had not stepped in with both feet to destroy the marriage, they would still be married and we would have none of these issues.

OP is probably a US resident who not only lives here, but went to school here and paid attention when they discussed debtor's prison in history classes. He's saying it's back, and if "contempt of court" for not paying a debt (even if you can pay!) gets you put in prison, I would say that we do indeed have debtor's prison.

sorry, you are telling the wrong person here I have 10 + years with the court system here dealing with a self centered ex. When I read this guy's letter, the dead dad, he is way fucked up and so me me me no wonder he did this. Look into suicide. Sometimes it is how the "victim" chooses to punish those who are left behind.

Go to any court, any attorney, read up on laws instead of just siding with the men because all non-custodial parents pay support. Male or female. I pay support in fact and I am female. I have paid for years and yeah, go to court and tell your side or better, have an attorney tell your side and the judge can rule/overrule matters.
