Re: Soooooo. If I were by chance to give YOU around $5MIL. What exactly would YOU do with it?
Put it in a savings account.

Get 1.25%return every year.

That's 50k O_o

Maybe buy a nice lil house nothing to fancy.

Then live off of interest for the rest of my life.

I would give to charity and etc..

But I have had soo many things happen to me that I feel I deserve a second chance. A will to live, travel around, etc.

I got shot by a hunter who though My friend, my girlfriend and I were deer. He missed my "friend" (according to his confession) hit my girlfriend and the same bullet hit my hand.

I fly helicopters, play guitar, have my racing license, almost done with my biology degree, used to rock climb very well but now its nearly impossible.

She died, I lived. 4 surgeries later they amputated my index finger, yada yada yada, life sucks pretty much haha.

But you move on.

So yea, I would either do the bank account thing or make a business that HELPS people and that offers me little profit so i don't feel like a greedy bastard.

There you go!

So lets just "Say" I have an extra $5Mil to give away,
And lets just "Say" I was thinking about giving it to someone. Not some BS Charity but to someone that could REALLY REALLY USE IT.
And lets just "Say" that you would end up getting it in the next 24 hours.
What exactly would you do with a sudden 5MIL in your lap?

After moving out of Lubbock, Texas, I would get my life straight (about 120,000 would do that) and start messing around with alternative energy inventions (pre-existing ones: Tesla, coral castle, nickel dust, Australian inventions, etc.) and try to be like Robin Hood with energy... Create it and let neighbors have free electricity... (if I could get the free power further than geographically local, I would, but it's a start...)

"I would buy", good lord people WTF is up with the need for stuff?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1333507

Um....it's MONEY and that's what you DO with it?

Every time you are using it-you are buying something, whether
it's land, peace, war, food, education, etc. It's a medium
of exchange, nothing more.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 668442

Okay so you make a good point. Let's take this a little further. What if all Hell broke loose and money was no longer a means of exchange. It is just man helping man. Really giving, do you think all these people saying they would do this and that for a stranger would view giving in the same way? The best thing everyone would have to offer is love, not physical stuff and outrageous charity because stuff is just stuff. Can't take it with you when you die.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1333507

If all hell broke loose,
labor would become the medium of exchange until a new form of
exchange is formed. I am not saying that people would not perform acts of charity expecting nothing in return because many would,

but continually laboring for another without any
return is untenable. Whether through 'love' or 'self interest
the medium is the same.

Stuff is just stuff, but stuff can be tools and tools have a
value for the 'work' saving that they represent. Take a
hand drill for example. It a thing, but I can bore a hole with it faster and more uniform than digging it out with a sharp rock.

Stuff isn't the problem. It's peoples acquisitive natures'
that continually demand MORE.

I personally have enough to take care of and do
not need anything more.

Which is why I said I'd BUY my neighbor a house.
Hers probably should be condemned, and she works 3 jobs
and takes care of her sick husband. I would like to see
her be able to come home to a decent place.

The same thing I would do if I was ever lucky enough to win the lottery.

I'd set up my dream I call "Iris Cove".

In my mind it's about 20 acres or so.
A couple of milk cows, chickens for eggs, big vegetable garden, stocked pond, a well, off the grid power if possible.

Lots of outdoor work.

I'd have cabins for my kids and their families, my sister and myself and husband so we could all be together. I picture a big kitchen in my house where we'd gather for meals.

The garden would be big enough to share with friends and neighbors.

And, of course, I'd plant irises everywhere. I've run out of room for them here. :)

I would also help some of my relatives who are in financial trouble.

I would help people that needed it and my family and friends. I would give some to our church and to local businesses like the salvation armry and red cross and give to other poor countries and yes I would buy my 5 children some nice things and pay off there debts and all our bills too. Would help my brother get a house for his family too. He works hard and has no place to call home. Thanks for asking. Have a great day. and GOD BLESS!!!

Open a B&B for families of Autistic and developmentally delayed children. A place of beauty and respite, a small farm. Someplace NICE where parents can relax and feel special, and the kids can have fun. Beautiful rooms, with things that can be broken without breaking the bank. A certified wrangler for equine therapy. A pool with a life guard in the afternoons. An RN on call. On the fringes of the farm, a retreat for artists of all kinds. Two or three lovely cabins or yurts or something... trading a little help on the farm for a month of free peace. Artists and parents mingling for dinner, or an evening glass of wine. Kids having the time of their lives with counselors and therapists on sight. A place where all are welcomed guests, where their "normal" is understood and celebrated! A small patch of beautiful where all families can feel welcome, and perhaps for a little while, free!

I used to daydream about building an entire subdivision for my entire family. I would have it gated and have security too. The entire family free of mortgages and rent. The weekends would be fun. BBQ's and lots of food. Kids playing. That seems like the life. :)

4.Soup kitchens/ centers for the homeless.

I'd buy my family a nice house (not over the top nice, just comfortable for the 5 of us). I'd pay off my parents mortgage. I'd give some to charity; help others. Pay off my student loans, the car we have, and put aside some for my kids' future of course.

Re: Soooooo. If I were by chance to give YOU around $5MIL. What exactly would YOU do with it?
1. Ask you where the best place to bank would be since you were smart enough to have 5 million dollars in the first place.
2. Ask who your broker is and how you had your portfolio laid out when you made the money.
3. Immediately get an attorney to start the immigration process to get my husband by my side. We've been married almost 4 years and only had one year together side by side.
4. Pay off my parent's house and buy more land that I could use to make a productive "dry farm". Here in Texas, water is expensive and it won't always be available. Dry farming is the process of naturally growing plants and then grafting together plants which not only produce fruit in very dry growing environments, but are also disease resistant. No pesticides - no chemical fertilizers allowed. Nature does what nature does and produces a plant that can adapt to the dry conditions. I'm not the first to do this, but I'd like to be able to be productive enough at it to make sure my plants are available to anyone who needs to grow food where there isn't a lot of water.

I only use Texas Heirloom seeds so there ain't no freaking GMO crap going on. A fish is a fish and a tomato is a freaking tomato, thankyouverymuch.

It takes a lot of money to get the poisons out of soil before it is back the way nature intended it. Once your soil is aerobic and those minerals are being released and used by the good microbes in your soil, your plants will prosper. You can't grow naturally and productively in soil that has been made anaerobic by chemical and pesticide abuse. The soil has to be cleaned - first.

And I'd have to find some like-minded, trustworthy people who shared the common vision that food shouldn't be used as a weapon to control people or an economy.

Re: Soooooo. If I were by chance to give YOU around $5MIL. What exactly would YOU do with it?
$5 million is a lot of money that could do a lot of good for society. Always wanted to make a difference in this world. It would take a lot of thought but maybe begin with a think tank on how to solve problems of society. It begins with birth because you would think at this point in time we would have advanced enough to get beyond war, prejudice and other flaws of the human experience. Actually it seem the problem has to do with ego and belief systems. Survival of the fittest which is more of our reptilian animalistic nature and the repeating of history.

There has to be a way out of this loop a way to evolve the species. That is where I would put this money into evolving mankind into an age of peace, compassion, love and abundance. All people would love themselves and take responsibility for their actions knowing that when they love themselves that they have more than enough love for others. We would all have reverence for everyone and everything on this earth. Unconditional love would rule our hearts in a golden age where information, knowledge and wisdom is for everyone.

Oh yes I can believe it.

The City of Pittsburgh recently overturned their law
against chickens, and now people who have at at least 2000
sqft of property can have 3 chickens and 1 beehive (no roosters)----but it took lobbying by the citizens to make it happen.

If you live in a planned community, I am not sure you have
any recourse, but if the township that you live in allows it,
you may have some ammunition.

Good luck!

Re: Soooooo. If I were by chance to give YOU around $5MIL. What exactly would YOU do with it?
I'd do what I did before. I would look for people who were in need, and then anonymously help them. I would make preparations--house, solar, food, etc...
to take in as many people as I could. I would familiarize myself with people and organizations who were preparing and intending to help others when TSHF
and I would contribute to their preparations. And I would ask various clergy to point out people who were in desperation, but were hard workers, and then I would arrange financial help and/or arrange decent jobs and/or hire them at a wage which would allow them to support their families in dignity. I would benefit as many people as I could in the time we have left. And I would help as many people as I could become self-sufficient and informed so that when all hell breaks loose we could have each other's back.

That's what I did before.
