I would also create a center to help ppl get off drugs and also to create a housing unit for those who are homeless. I hate to see people with little to nothing as I have been down that road myself. I would like to help others in hopes that they will help someone else as they were helped. But hey, we can all have dreams. Ty OP _ Sometimes its nice to do some dreaming here and there to get our minds off the daily stresses. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1333003 United States 06/19/2011 10:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is kinda easy. I'd buy a modest house for myself and my kids. I would also buy property and have a house built in one of the "safe" areas of the country. I'd prepare for the future but not at the expense of living for today. I've read about too many people that are so obsessed with conspiracies and TSHTF that they forget that they are alive NOW. If you can't enjoy the wonderful world you have now how will you ever survive in the world that possibly awaits us. Both my parents died from cancer and no amount of money I could donate would cure the disease so I would donate to the local hospice so that they could help make cancer victims last days bearable and possibly pleasing. My friends mother was in horrible pain and only had her son by her side. My parents were blessed in that they were taken care of, not in pain, and had all their loved ones by their side. I know I'd rather look at my kids when the time comes than look at a bare wall in a hospital somewhere. |

I would pay for my daughters college education, and my son's. I wouldn't really need the rest, so would set up funds for kids who can't get scholarships otherwise. |

There is a homeless man and woman I see when I go to Detroit. They are at the I94 exit and Livernois. They look genuine so I give them a little something when I see them...$5, $20. They always light up like a Christmas tree and say God Bless you. That is a great feeling to help someone that really needs it. If I won 5 million I think I would get them a place to live and set them up. I'd then help my immediate family and circle of friends. |

Corona User ID: 1427232 United States 06/19/2011 10:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would start with the children of the world. So many have nothing, no home, no parents, no education, no pets and no one to love them and no hope of a decent future. Somehow I would invest the money into a new organization that touches on young lives in such a way that they have a chance at some happiness and security. I can't tell you how to accomplish the above, because it would take some planning. I can tell you that present organizations are giving the top monies to themselves and only a tiny amount actually reaches those in need. This would have to be remedied. |

Then I'd BURN THE LOT! Have always had F.A. money. Get by just fine. Rather show people what its real value is. Oh, I'd by a carton of beer beforehand too - think I'd wanna be drunk and smiling to cope with the shrieks of horror... |

The last million I would use on my own family. That's the truest answer I can give. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1381852 United States 06/19/2011 10:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow my husband and I talk about this all the time. Pay off our house. Pay off my parent's house. Set up college fund for the children. We would move to a central american country. Open up a free medical center for the people there. Providing basic care and specialized care for pre-natal, drug treatment, HIV awareness and treatment. We love the Smile Train charity but would like to start our own on a small scale so that the money goes directly to the children that need it not to a non-profit huge organization. Then I think we will sleep for awhile and then travel the world looking for ways to help the people that live there. We would be like the peace corp only just us. It is fun to dream and to think that instead of working to live we could do good things for people that will have lasting effects far past our own existance. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1292002 United States 06/19/2011 10:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The best thing you could do is just put it in the bank and wait until you need something. The problem is that the more things you accumulate, the more tied down you get and the more responsibility you have towards them. With that comes added stress to you life. People suddenly want to know you and be around you so that they can take what you have. You have to fight off a ton of suddenly nice people and new friends who just want to tear you down for a piece of the action. Having money is a big headache. It is better to have good morals and good character. That will do more to help you have a good life. Money is essentially power. If you are not strong enough to be able to control that power, it can destroy you. |

Let's take this a little further. What if all Hell broke loose and money was no longer a means of exchange. It is just man helping man. Really giving, do you think all these people saying they would do this and that for a stranger would view giving in the same way? The best thing everyone would have to offer is love, not physical stuff and outrageous charity because stuff is just stuff. Can't take it with you when you die. |
