Sounds like the psychology of HK coming up to the handover in 1997. They hated China, after all they or their parents had run away from it. It made no difference of course. I haven't been back to HK in a while but I guess the psychology hasn't changed that much. When Hu Jintao visited HK a year or two ago, he had tons of armed protection, the same way Obama travels. But when he travels within China, he seems to have no protection at all, no distance from common people, if TV footage is to be believed.

I think the US control in Taiwan is severely weakened now, as trade and movement of people to and from the mainland has increased. Didn't our guy who was leader of Taiwan actually get put in jail for corruption? It's hard to believe that the US would risk a fight with China there. You are quite far from the true situation. Many in the West are blinded for the real situation because of overconfidence in their potential. The Chinese can pilot the US made commercial Boeings and the Russian jet fighters, not worse than the Americans do. They have nuclear submarine(s) and now build aircraft carrier. Americans fight only with 3rd world countries since the time of WW2, and there was no war on American territory since the Civil war.


I am deeply shocked from that "CCP member speech", and naturally doubt it is true. There might be a reason to fake such a speech - to make China even more hated, and to justify the US first strike.

However, if the things go towards WW3, include Russia in the equation and it will not be on the US side. I am afraid they won't be picked up one by one from the water. That is a second Cuban crisis in a reversed mode. What do you expect in response? But seems no one in America pays attention, while buying more time and installing more first-strike weapons, using nuclear capable bombers and missiles in regional wars, and developing new kind of space-atmosphere planes. This is not going unnoticed by Russia. Americans are good in poker, but everyone loses once.

I doubt China will attack with biological weapons, because its own population is much more vulnerable to that in first place. Remember what happened with SARS epidemic that circled the world and took the highest toll from China. Therefore I think that speech is faked for certain goals, but the situation is quite complicated even without it.

[FBIS Editor's Note: The following selections are taken from "Unrestricted Warfare," a book published in China in February 1999 which proposes tactics for developing countries, in particular China, to compensate for their military inferiority vis-à-vis the United States during a high-tech war. The selections include the table of contents, preface, afterword, and biographical information about the authors printed on the cover. The book was written by two PLA senior colonels from the younger generation of Chinese military officers and was published by the PLA Literature and Arts Publishing House in Beijing, suggesting that its release was endorsed by at least some elements of the PLA leadership. This impression was reinforced by an interview with Qiao and laudatory review of the book carried by the party youth league's official daily Zhongguo Qingnian Bao on 28 June.
