Fukushima IS the worst nuclear disaster in history and one that has poisoned the Pacific Ocean, the Northern Hemisphere and of course Japan.

When Japan was rocked by a massive earthquake and tsunami back in March, we told ourselves the worst was behind us. [...]

But all these weeks later, the crisis is far from over.

The crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is still leaking and, judging from the experience at Chernobyl, Japan’s recovery won’t be measured in years, but centuries.

In a TV Asahi program on June 16, [Hiroaki Koide, an assistant professor at the Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute] made the following comment:

“As far as I can tell from the announcements made by Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), the nuclear fuel that has melted down inside reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant has gone through the bottom of the containers, which are like pressure cookers, and is lying on the concrete foundations, sinking into the ground below. We have to install a barrier deep in the soil and build a subterranean dam as soon as possible to prevent groundwater contaminated with radioactive materials from leaking into the ocean.”

His comment captured public interest and when I asked a high-ranking government official about it, the official said that construction of an underground dam was indeed being prepared. But when I probed further, I found that the project was in limbo due to opposition from TEPCO.

Sumio Mabuchi, an aide to Prime Minister Naoto Kan who is dealing with nuclear power plant issues, holds the same concerns as those expressed by Koide and has sought an announcement on construction of an underground dam, but TEPCO has resisted such a move. [...]

TEPCO needs to be given the corporate death penalty. They have made bad decision after bad decision. They have not shown the competency nor the balls to do what is needed at the moment of each crisis inside this major crisis.

I love how everyone is saying tepco should be put to death, or are murderers etc. well, have you not noticed that it IS the USA that started this entire mess of a money making greed machine to begin with. Nuclear power would have NEVER been allowed by men if there were NO PROFIT involved; they would have said -na, too much work and too dangerous. But get a few power hungry, greedy little men who have the foresight of a gnat -and THIS is what you get. Radiation destroying the planet. And for what? so that can eat a little food, relax, get fat and have sex! yeh, really worth it. Tell that to the grandkids! Idiots!

it's not jsut tepco - it's ALL the reactors on this planet and all the countries that have drunk the cool aid believing the lies that the white dudes told them.

Now, the courageous thing. The right thing. IS to admit they were wrong. Deadly wrong. And stop these reactors now, right now. And put all their war monies, into real alternatives that don't destroy the earth and the other creatures that deserve to live in unpolluted environments!
