Plutonium is another kettle of fish alltogeather. Plutonium is "one" of the most deadly substances known to man, many many times more "poisoness" than "plain old" uranium, (uraniums half life is measured in millions of years)

Number 3 I think was the "mox" fuelled reactor that blew sky high. Its entire inventory of plutonium/uranium mix was turned instantly to tiny tiny little particles. And disspersed high in the sky, these little babies have coated entire forests and the landscape at large. It is hard for me to put this in any other words.

What we saw at the Explosion from Nr. 3 was not the Core itself!

When Nr. 3 Core explode you will be not able to work in that areas until the end of our days!

Something like this happened in Chernobyl
but not here!

Until now none of the Cores explode
and i hope we will never see something like this here
in Japan or anywhere else,
this is the main reason why we need to shut down
Nuclear Energy!

Ok, So the fact that the spent fuel pool in number three is apparently gone, also tells us that something like forty years of spent fuel rods are now spread out over the Japanese landscape. And this is plutonium, as well as uranium.

And the fact that everywhere you go in fukushima the geiger counters are telling you to get out?

There are too many "facts" which stand out and seem to scream at me.

There is also the matter of the number 4 spent fuel pool.

I read recently that the word "spent" is a bit of a nice way of saying "unstable" !!!!!

This is because over time and continued use the zirconium cladding on the rods become "opaque" so that neautrons cant freely pass through them, this means that they become difficult to control. When they are placed (for years) in the "spent" fuel pool, they are extremely dangerously "hot" and must be handled with kid gloves.

The spent fuel pools were NEVER designed to accomadate thousands of rods, let alone 30 to 40 years worth.

They have found that the spent fuel pools over time build up a measure of "curium" which just so happens to be millions of times more deadly then even plutonium.

The number three spent fuel pool is now non existant. It was blown sky high, this is a fact.

There are quite a few posters here who seem to think that this is all doom and gloom (which it is) and that its all a load of bunk (which it isnt)

The simple facts seem hard for people to pick up.

The basic, though at times complex, issues of nuclear energy production are easy to understand, we heat water into steam, and that drives the turbines. Easy?

The bit that seems to escape people, is what happens when a nuclear facility explodes.

The seemingly quiet calm and peacefull nature of the aftermath of the exploded buildings, belies the microscopic and incredibly deadly undertones of nuclear action.

We cant see whats going on inside, we cant see the radiation, this does not mean its not there. People who think this is all going away some time soon, should really go back to school and this time, listen.

The earth is billions of years old.

Is this fact hard to understand?

Radiation is deadly.

this fact seems to immiediatly send some people mad and into denial.

Thats ok.

whats happening is happening, regardless.

I wish all of you well in japan, and hope you can escape, the country I mean. Australias pretty empty. For now!
