Another radioactive waste item that is building up..

Radioactive oil patch waste on the loose in N.D.
[link to bismarcktribune.com]

[snip]

Tainted filters

The filters — about the size of a long butterfly net — are used to strain the toxic saltwater and hydraulic fracture water that comes from oil wells while it’s being injected into deep disposal wells.
Not all saltwater is “hot,” but radioactive particles will accumulate on the filters if they’re used long enough, or in certain areas of the Bakken.

There are some 511 injection wells out in the oil patch and filters can be changed multiple times every day, meaning there are potentially thousands generated every week.
A serious problem of poorly managed radioactive waste is only going to get worse, said Steve Tillotson, assistant director of the state’s solid waste management program.

It will get worse because of increased oil drilling, for one, he said. And it will get worse because the longer oil field equipment, like pipelines and oil storage tanks, is in use, the more naturally-occurring radioactivity will build up.

Contractors fail to pay decontamination workers

NHK has learned that some contractors failed to pay a special allowance to workers who remove radioactive fallout from the Fukushima nuclear accident.

The government pays the risk allowance of 110 dollars per day on top of the daily wage to people who work in places with relatively high levels of radiation.

The government has commissioned major construction companies to carry out the decontamination. But the actual work is performed by their subcontractors.

NHK found that 2 subcontractors hired to work in Tamura City, Fukushima Prefecture, did not pay the allowance.

Nuclear plant operators payout amount revealed

NHK has learned that nuclear power plant operators in Japan have charged users about 90 million dollars a year to cover payouts to local authorities hosting their facilities.

NHK interviewed 9 power companies about their annual payments since 2008 to prefectures and municipalities hosting nuclear power plants.

The payments have been covered by utilities fees users pay to electric companies. But the details of just how much users are shouldering the cost of such payouts had not been revealed.

Japanese nuclear regulators present new safety measures

Japan's nuclear regulators on Monday presented a draft outline of new safety measures to prevent or minimize the consequences of severe accidents.

Among other features, the Nuclear Regulation Authority said utilities will be required to build a special safety facility housing a secondary control room for reactor operations to guard against accidents from natural disasters or acts of terrorism, such as intentional aircraft crashes.

NRC to review spent fuel regulations

After more than 20 years of non-action, the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission is reviewing its policies, regulations, guidance, and technical needs in several key areas, such as: retrievability, cladding integrity, and safe handling of spent fuel; criticality safety features and requirements for spent fuel transportation; and aging management and qualification of dual-purpose canisters and components after long-term storage.

Editorial: Inappropriate decontamination work betrays disaster victims
[link to mainichi.jp]

[snip]

Cases of sloppy government-run decontamination work in areas affected by the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant disaster -- such as letting water used to wash radioactive materials off structures run off into ditches -- have emerged. According to an Environment Ministry report released on Jan. 18, there have been at least five such cases. The ministry has instructed contractors involved in three of the cases to make improvements.

The ministry said there were no instances of malice that violated the Act on Special Measures concerning the Handling of Pollution by Radioactive Materials. However, what did take place is undoubtedly a breach of trust of the local residents who are longing to return to their homes as soon as possible. Ministry officials are set to reinforce on-site oversight and supervision, and have indicated government intentions to cancel contracts in the case of such sloppy work in the future. Such measures should promptly be implemented.

Citizen Uses SimplyInfo Research To Take On Omaha Power Board

Local resident LaVerne Thraen cited a report by SimplyInfo.org when he confronted the Omaha Public Power District regarding multiple failures at Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Station.

Our report, based off of a December 2012 NRC Investigation found multiple new problems at the plant. Many of these issues pointed back to management and the upper management at OPPD. Some of these ongoing failures and mismanagement went back decades. The response by OPPD board members to Mr. Thraen’s questions is worth watching!

Increasing amounts of contaminated water at Fukushima I NPS at issue
A point at issue at the Fukushima I nuclear power station (NPS) is treatment of increasing amounts of water contaminated by radioactivity. As a year and 10 months has passed since the onset of the accident, the amount of contaminated water stored has amounted to about 220,000 metric tons. Contaminated water is still being generated as much as 40 tons per day, and additional storage tanks are being constructed. While Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) planned to start operating the multi-nuclide removal equipment (ALPS), which can remove 62 nuclides from the contaminated water, in September last year, its startup is delayed by about four months as of now.
---
The water treated by the ALPS can be handled almost as ordinary water, although it cannot be discharged freely because of the persistence of tritium, the only radionuclide remained.

@Cploerb, where is the or your Proof that i am a Liar and /or Shill?
Show me even one. could be soooo difficult!
Hmmmmm?

Chernobyl:
The release of radioisotopes from the nuclear fuel was largely controlled by their boiling points, and the majority of the radioactivity present in the core was retained in the reactor.

All of the noble gases, including krypton and xenon, contained within the reactor were released immediately into the atmosphere by the first steam explosion.
55% of the radioactive iodine in the reactor, containing about 1760 PBq or 400 kg of I-131, was released, as a mixture of vapor, solid particles, and organic iodine compounds.
Caesium (85 PBq Cs-137[98]) and tellurium were released in aerosol form.
An early estimate for fuel material released to the environment was 3 ± 1.5%; this was later revised to 3.5 ± 0.5%. This corresponds to the atmospheric emission of 6 t of fragmented fuel.[97]
Total atmospheric release is estimated at 5200 PBq.[99]

Two sizes of particles were released: small particles of 0.3 to 1.5 micrometers (aerodynamic diameter) and large particles of 10 micrometers. The large particles contained about 80% to 90% of the released nonvolatile radioisotopes zirconium-95, niobium-95, lanthanum-140, cerium-144 and the transuranic elements, including neptunium, plutonium and the minor actinides, embedded in a uranium oxide matrix.

On 24 May 2012, more than a year after the disaster, TEPCO released their estimate of radiation releases due to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster. An estimated 538,100 terabecquerels (TBq) of iodine-131, caesium-134 and caesium-137 was released. 520,000 TBq was released into the atmosphere between 12 to 31 March 2011 and 18,100 TBq into the ocean from 26 March to 30 September 2011. A total of 511,000 TBq of iodine-131 was released into both the atmosphere and the ocean, 13,500 TBq of caesium-134 and 13,600 TBq of caesium-137.[19] In May 2012, TEPCO reported that at least 900 PBq had been released "into the atmosphere in March last year [2011] alone"[20][21] up from previous estimates of 360-370 PBq total.

Japan is in a place that has never been recorded in history.

You have irradiation twenty-four seven, three-sxity-five, that is off the charts; indeed no way to get near it; you know it; we know it; and THAT is why it continues to be unrecorded.... you support a system by denial that says "shit.. what have we done"....

period

@Cploerb

you see?
You don;t know much and i doubt that you even spend Time
for this Topic apart from Copy and Paste!

The Radiation Levels in the whole of Japan is low
and mostly everywhere back to Pre-Fukushima Levels!

Even closer to the Plant like Ibaraki, Gunma, Niigata, Miyagi
the Levels return, at the moment they are ca. 25-50% above Pre-Fukushima!

I even think than in ca. 10-15 Years the People closer to the Plant will be able to return because we don:t have the
millions of Fragments spoiled in the Environment like we see in Chernobyl!

We here in Japan are well aware of this Accident
but you can:t know this because you are not here
and you can:t read Japanese, so please don:t tell me
and don:t tell us that we are living in Denial!

PS:
I don:t support any System (like you do!)
only my own and the System from my Friends and Family!

you jest, not only are you a proven liar and shill, but you have nothing but air...

show the depletion of the plant...
show the water table charts...
show the definitive growth on hormonal changes of the localised chidren...
show the still birth rate...

stand up and either post these results, or sod off....

you're in support of ignore three+ melt throughs... and far worse than chernobyl?...... get yourself straight...

The large particles contained about 80% to 90% of the released nonvolatile radioisotopes zirconium-95, niobium-95, lanthanum-140, cerium-144 and the transuranic elements, including neptunium, plutonium and the minor actinides, embedded in a uranium oxide matrix.

melt through is sadly a fact

where do you out it? dunno

and you have entirely reported and factual irradiated populouses, not to mention Tokyo is screwed...

good luck with that.....

you lie for what reason?

:make people feel safe whilst you kill them?

sad..... beautiful country until now... no lies will save you.... no lies will save other countries as it crosses the ocean 24/7/365.......... your technology given to you after WWII, is old, wrong, and kills.....

When the Melt-Through is a "Fact" than provide a Source for it,
i would accept it but until now i haven/t seen such a Claim by reliable Sources!

I don:t understand the rest of your Posting lol

But provide a Source for your claimed Melt-Through popcorn rofl

You are shite!

@ Cploerb,
arrrrre you able to provide Sources for your Claim of the Melt-Through of 3. Reactors in F:Shima,
or are you not

popcorn

Everyone who think so should be able to provide Sources
for this Claim and i invite everyone to come forward
with this Material because i could learn something which i welcome!
