MOX on the way...

Ship carrying nuclear fuel leaves France for Japan

A ship loaded with nuclear fuel has left a French port for Japan, carrying the first delivery since the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The cargo ship left the port of Cherbourg in northwestern France on Wednesday, after the fuel was loaded onto the ship under tight security.

Japan's Kansai Electric Power Company had ordered the MOX fuel from the French energy firm Areva. MOX fuel is a mixture of plutonium extracted from spent nuclear fuel and uranium.

The utility firm plans to use the fuel at its Takahama plant in Fukui Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast. The plant is currently offline.

They have two other MOX reactors besides fuku3.

Kyushu Electric's Genkai 3
Shikoku's Ikata 3

Ten reactors are approved for MOX but only three were using it.

Maybe they are coming back with a vengeance.

You need to know that only the Guys from Fairwinds have a Clue about Nuclear Powerplants, Enenews is also Lalala
but you need to read it in a careful Manner,
Ex-Sfk is okay for a Japanese View but forget the rest!

There are more Sources where you can get Information,
some are Pro-Nuclear but their Opinion is also justified!

And imo it is also important to get the official Tepco-View
because they are the only ones who are releasing Giga Bytes
of Data from the inside,
only the J-Government is in a similar Position!

And i recommend you also the Physic-Forum to get a better understanding of Nuclear Reactors!

Restrictions on post-Fukushima imports from Japan modified
The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health approved, on 18 April, a proposal by the European Commission modifying the rules on imports of food and feed originating from Japan (Implementing Regulation 297/2011) that have been in force since the Fukushima nuclear accident in March 2011.

------- ...and slightly changed the precautionary rules applying to the other ten prefectures located in the restricted zone (Shizuoka, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Miyagi, Saitama, Tokyo, Iwate, Chiba and Kanagawa).

Under the new rules, a series of products originating from the latter prefectures, including pears, pome fruit and scallops, were taken off the list of products for which pre-testing is required before they can be exported to the EU. At the same time, buckwheat, lotus root and beef, as well as mushrooms from Nagano, Aomori and Niigata, were added to this list. The modified rules will be published in the second half of May following adoption by the Commission. They are expected to enter into force on 1 June.

No!

There are still more than 150.000 People Evacuated and living in Emergency Shelters
because of Fukushima,
this People lost their Homes for a very long Time
and the majority of this People will not return Home,
they will die somewhere in Misery!

Another point is that the situation of the Plant is unstable
and there is a high chance that the Plant goes Bananas again,
in my own opinion this chance is small but exist,
other People (the Majority of Glp) think that the Plant
already exploded and all of the Radiation is out,
in this case the World will die in the matter of Years!

I am a bit more Optimistic,
we had soooo much luck and maybe even Protection by a higher Force!

Another great Article;

The Most Dangerous (Man-Made) Lava Flow
One of the things I enjoy most is running across fascinating information when I’m not even looking for it. Case in point, today’s subject. I was doing some research for my class on Fukushima Dai’ichi and Chernobyl when I ran into some references to lava. “Lava?” I thought, “Why are they talking about lava when I thought I was trying to find out about nuclear accidents?” Lo and behold, what do I find but an entire research field that has been making manmade lava for decades. Sure, we’ve seen some of the recent manmade lava flows done at Syracuse University and small-scale lava in experiments for some time, but here I was finding research that involved a ton (literally) of manmade lava … and moreover, these lava have been made by accident on a number of occasions with tragic consequences.

Sorry Indy, but the Nic you are talking to is Tepco (oop), Atom boy.. he has no children or hope for anyone.. he is pro-nuclear and a major shill.. if you ask him.. he will tell you that the radiological situation is fine.... i believe he has no prodogy or children.. to support the on going crisis is tatamount to cruelty at the very least man slaugter.....

On the one hand the TEPCO defenders will tell you all is well, and yet REAL readings (even from TEPCO), are 10 Million Bq per hour, every day since 2011 (they admit to that and more); fairly damning, from unkown sources... ie: at that level you cannot go near it.. hence the lack of populous 'fixing' things...

Kansai Electric stresses safety of Ohi reactors

Kansai Electric Power Company, in a meeting with nuclear regulators on Friday, stressed the safety of the only 2 reactors currently operating in Japan.

The Nuclear Regulation Authority will put into effect new safety guidelines in July, but it decided in March not to apply them to the 2 reactors in Ohi in Fukui Prefecture. The NRA will confirm their safety later, referencing the new guidelines.

In the first evaluation meeting with the NRA on Friday, Kansai Electric said the 2 reactors satisfy the new guidelines, and that seismic faults located in and near the plant will not affect their safety.

The operator said it has not finished the construction of an emergency headquarters facility, but that a meeting room near the reactor buildings could serve this purpose.

M7.0 quake jolts islands off northern Japan; no tsunami warning

TOKYO — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck islands off northern Japan on Friday but no tsunami warning was issued, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The quake hit at 12:05 p.m. near the Russian-administered Kuril island chain, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was located 122 kilometers deep.

Ex-TEPCO Chairman Katsumata to resign from all positions

Former Tokyo Electric Power Co. Chairman Tsunehisa Katsumata will retire from a position at an affiliated company where he served after leaving the utility to take responsibility for the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant disaster, sources close to TEPCO said Friday.

Katsumata is an absentee director at Japan Atomic Power Co., a nuclear power plant operator that sells electricity to its major shareholders such as TEPCO and Kansai Electric Power Co. But he will step down in June, the sources said.

The move will leave the 73-year-old, who steered Japan's largest utility for a decade as president and chairman, with no other job positions.

Radioactive water problems at Fukushima nuke plant force rethink

The government and Tokyo Electric Power Co. will present broad new thinking in May on ways to prevent radioactive water from increasing at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, industry minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Friday.

Motegi made the remarks during a meeting to discuss the decommissioning process of the plant's stricken reactors, as TEPCO continues to grapple with water leaks found recently at several underground storage tanks at the site.

The Nuclear Regulation Authority released an estimate the same day that the leaks could lead to the density of radioactive strontium in groundwater exceeding the legal limit in about 10 years in the coastal area of the plant.

NuScale Announces Major Technology Breakthrough – Safe Cooldown Over Indefinite Timeframe Achievable with No Operator Action, No Power, No Additional Water

PORTLAND, Ore - NuScale Power, LLC announced today that the company has reached a major technological breakthrough whereby the NuScale Module does not require any electrical power—alternate current (AC) or direct current (DC)—to be able to achieve safe cooldown should the need arise. Additionally, NuScale's technology does not require any on-going operator action nor additional water to achieve safe cooldown.

The events of Fukushima highlighted the importance that traditional reactors have of needing back-up sources of electricity to power the essential valves and pumps needed for long-term cooling to their nuclear power plants. The complete station black-out caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami eventually led to extensive damage to the Daiichi nuclear units because of their inability to power their safety systems. Their final lines of defense were banks of DC batteries with a limited life.
