TEPCO succeeds in taking water sample from crippled No. 1 reactor
The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant succeeded Friday in taking a sample of water from the No. 1 reactor's primary containment vessel, the first such attempt since the accident at the plant occurred last year.

The water contained 19,000 becquerels of cesium 134 per cubic centimeter and 35,000 becquerels of cesium 137, lower than the density levels of the water accumulating at the building housing the reactor.

Hullo Waterbug et CP et al, im back after the usual three week ISP ban. Which sucks really bad. Its hard to keep up to date with things when you cant even see the site! Yes I should get an "account" but the annonamous tag suits me.

I see good ol Atom boy is Still here (LOL) and as usual CP overreacts to the bait (tsk tsk tsk) THAT is the whole idea behind "shillin" after all. Oh well.

In the MEANTIME things are still pretty interesting down in good ol Fukushima.

I am STILL waiting for the REAL news to come out about ALL THE OTHER NUCLEAR SITES THAT ARE IN TROUBLE AS WELL.?????

That naughty earthquake affected many reactors not just daichi. Dainii, and other entire sites further up the coast are in "TROUBLE" But they are just NOT mentioning them.

I read recerntly how its because america has so many boiling water reactors (around 30) and well, bad publicity and all that. Oh, and the nuc. industry is pretty much fighting for survival right now. Which is a good thing.

Ahem, "OH atom-boy????" You do realise that fukushima is STILL pumping out isotopes, right?

You DO realise that the radiation readings are going to INCREASE for the next "x" number of years, at the least until "they" can CONTAIN the emitions???

You of course realise that radioactgive paticles enjoy each others company sooo much that radiation tends to CLUSTER and CONCENTRATE oh, and themn MOVE to another location???

You do realise that because a doctor tells you you have cancer doesnt mean you straight away drop dead. First of all comes the slow steady decline in general health, then the BAD symtoms appear, finally your soooo weak you end up in hospital, where you get worse and worse until finally, painfully, your gasping your last breaths. It can take twenty years or it can take six weeks, leaucaemia(spelling) can take three days.

The (how many) children LIVING in fukushima right now, will be VERY lucky to reach their thirties. In other words they are ALL doomed, to a life of sickness, diesease, and early death.

And all the while, the ocean itself is being contaminated everyday. Everyday around the world since 3/11 nuclear monitoring has recorded non-stop INCREASES in CPM. Thats a CONSTANT. Fukushima AND the OTHER sites (they arent talking about) are CONTINUALLY producing and therfore releasing isotopes in the trillions every day.

Atomboy (or whoever the hell you are you misguided fool) you seem very intent on "sticking up" for the TERPCO bullshit. Thats fine, you go on ahead. You try and explain how many fish it is "safe" to eat, try and count how many children will not only not make it to adulthood, but also wont reproduce, because of dna damage.

You, Atomboy, keep on keeping on, it doesnt change anything. I will come back every now and then to see yopu still here "a'shillin" and as usual I will just remind you of a few things to which you will almost immediatly "shill off" it doesnt worry me. But perhaps your parents will be a little dissapointed that there son "?" has turned out to be a government boot licking brainless sheep, not even fit for slaughter, (your to valuable as a douche) I can see them now, looking at each other, sadness in their eyes, as each one blames the other. So sad Atomboy, If you think Im being a "tad" impersonal then just imagine ALL THOSE THOUSANDS OF PARENTS WHO WILL WATCH as their children wither to death in front of them, or even worse, THEY themselves will die (young of cancer) and with nobody to look after their children, how personal is that.

You see, Atomboy, the government never sleeps, it never eats, you can vote it in AND out, but it remains, allways.
The government has no interest in telling YOU or anyone else anything it has decided to keep to itself.

For good reason.

Your entire country is dying. Your industries are slowly going broke. You cannot feed your people.
ETC ETC ETC ETC
So why would a government/TEPCO nationalised company tell you or anyone else the so called truth??

If tepco actually told everyone what the PICTURE really looks like, you guys will be jumping of cliffs. It really is that bad.

But not to worry, smile, be positive, allways a good thing, especially when you are standing in front of thr firing squad, smile, be positive, put on a brave face,. and just go with whatever the government/Tepco is saying, its bound to work out in the end.

Well, adios fellas, Do you see what I just did there CP?????

Yep, its called bait, it smells really good, irresistable to Atomboy, I cant wait to read his dribbly responce.
I do this CP to save you the effort of even going out of your way to respond to the man. Itll help.

Until next time WB CP oh and of course AB

Spokane’s nuclear hot spots
[link to www.spokesman.com]

[snip]

There were nine underground missile sites within a 50-mile radius of Fairchild Air Force Base. Each site – or “coffin,” as it was referred to by the airmen – held an Atlas-E missile armed with a 4-megaton nuclear warhead. At the time, reports from Cuba indicated that the Soviet Union was building a military base there and arming it with nuclear warheads aimed at the United States. As President John F. Kennedy and his advisers wrestled with how to respond to such a direct threat while avoiding a full-blown nuclear war, pressure built at the Spokane missile sites as they got ready to launch.

“Spokane really was the tip of the spear,” DeLateur said. “People in Spokane did know what was going on. There were actual nuclear fallout drills and the Air Force base was on high alert.”

Anti-nuclear activists call for temporary 'hardened on-site storage' of nuclear waste
[link to www.voicenews.com]

[snip]

Critics also oppose the current practices involved with storing used nuclear fuel bundles, which are highly radioactive, in deep cooling pools near the reactors. About 75 percent of high level nuclear fuel waste in the U.S. is stored in pools.

Because no permanent solution to nuclear waste has been developed, the pools are packed with more fuel rods than they were designed to store, making them especially dangerous in the event that the water system fails, as happened in Fukushima in the wake of the 2011 earthquake. According to a 2011 Time magazine story, in-ground pools are located in buildings next to operating reactors at 73 U.S. sites; attic pools, like the ones at Fukushima, are used at 31 plants. Each pool is a bomb waiting to happen. A 1997 Brookhaven National Laboratory study said a disaster at one spent fuel pool could result in 138,000 deaths and contaminate 2,000 square miles.

Cuban missile crisis: The other, secret one
[link to www.bbc.co.uk]

[snip]

Fearing that Castro's hurt pride and widespread Cuban indignation over the concessions Khrushchev had made to Kennedy, might lead to a breakdown of the agreement between the superpowers, the Soviet leader concocted a plan to give Castro a consolation prize.

The prize was an offer to give Cuba more than 100 tactical nuclear weapons that had been shipped to Cuba along with the long-range missiles, but which crucially had passed completely under the radar of US intelligence.

Khrushchev concluded that because the Americans hadn't listed the missiles on their list of demands, the Soviet Union's interests would be well served by keeping them in Cuba.

Japan Power Company Admits Failings on Plant Precautions
[link to www.nytimes.com]

[snip]

The company, called Tepco, made the admission — over a year and a half after catastrophic meltdowns at Fukushima Daiichi — as part of a report in which it showcased internal changes as the government considers when to allow other reactors to resume operation, including those at Tepco’s two undamaged nuclear plants. But the admission, an apparent bid to inspire confidence, also seemed to confirm one of the main arguments of the company’s critics: that it refused to recognize and fix problems because it did not want to jeopardize the so-called safety myth that Japan’s nuclear technology was infallible.
