Faster improvement eyed for Fukushima reactors' water cooling systemThe operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant said Thursday it will seek to implement an improvement faster than previously thought in the functioning of the water cooling system for the three damaged reactors. Tokyo Electric Power Co. said by the end of March 2015, it will seek to shorten the 4-kilometer-long water circulation route used to cool the three crippled reactors. TEPCO initially planned to shorten the loop by the end of March 2017. But it now thinks it may be able to do so sooner because the circulating water has become cleaner than expected, making it possible to skip some processes, TEPCO spokesman Masayuki Ono told a press conference.
