5 Tips on Receiving the Holy Eucharist on the Tongue
Posted by Taylor Marshall

Open your mouth wide. Make your mouth into a landing pad, not a quarter slot.
Stick out your tongue. Don't be embarrassed.
Close your eyes. Why? If you leave your eyes open you'll be tempted to move your head toward the priest. Moving targets are hard to hit. Close your eyes and keep your head still.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Sticking out your tongue will insure that his hand doesn't come into contact with your teeth (or lips - gross!)
Please do not chew the Holy Eucharist. Let it soften in the mouth and then swallow. By doing this, you'll avoid having the smallest particle of Our Lord stuck in your teeth where it might be desecrated later by coming into contact with the profane.

Some of my Catholic friends complain about priests touching their mouths when they try to receive Holy Communion on the tongue. That never happens to me. I think it's because I stick out my tongue and open wide (or maybe it's because I have a big mouth!).

Hat tip to Father Thomas Longua for these recommendations.

On the tongue, and on your knees. You are, after all receiving the Creator of the entire universe in you body. Do you think, if you could see Him, that you could remain on your feet?

Tell us that the "consecrated" hands of a pedophile priest are any holier than the hands of the people?

Catholics have always been taught that they are inferior to priests, and so unworthy! The Scriptures do not teach that.

What a pile of crap. It matters not and priests are some of the most unholy people walking this planet, ditto also a lot of protestant clerics.

the BREAD IS NOT OUR LORD. The ceremony was given to remember his visit. Common people put on your brains. God is in the bread the same as he is in the leaf, the soil, the air. Just like the Mormons have "confused" white lighting for protection via magic underwear they make a lot of money off of, So ditto the Bread and Wine. It was fucked up by the catholic church on purpose. Christ is already within you. Eating a wafer does not put him there.

Re: receive the Holy Eucharist on the tongue, never in the hand
Historical argument favors Communion on the tongue

April 22, 2008

The American magazine Catholic Response has published an English translation of a provocative article, originally published in the official Vatican newspaper, calling for an end to the practice of receiving Communion in the hand.

The article by Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, originally printed in L'Osservatore Romano, examines the historical record of Catholic practice, concluding that the early Church quickly developed the practice in which lay people Communion on the tongue while kneeling. Only ordained ministers were allowed to touch the consecrated Host with their hands.

By the 6th century, Bishop Schneider writes, the Church had formed a consensus that Communion should be received on the tongue, of reverence for the Eucharistic Lord. Pope Gregory the Great chastised priests who resisted that consensus, and it was become an "almost universal practice" in the early Church, the author says.

Kneeling to receive Communion was also a pattern established early in Church history, Bishop Schneider reports. That posture, too, was seen as a means of expressing reverence for Jesus in the Eucharist, and "the most typical gesture of adoration is the biblical one of kneeling."

By administering Communion on the tongue, priests were able to foster greater devotion to the Eucharist;[/b] Bishop Schneider remarks that that form is "an impressive sign of the profession of faith the in the Real Presence."

He adds the argument that this form of distributing Communion can prevent accidents. The author cites St. Cyril of Jerusalem, who exhorted priests to use extra caution "so that no even a crumb of the Lord's Body could fall to the ground."

Re: receive the Holy Eucharist on the tongue, never in the hand
I get the 'impression' that the 'bread' that is His body, and the 'wine' that is his blood, refers to the nourishment and liquid that we can get from the Earth. The water and fruits to make wine...His blood.....the grains and plants used for bread...His body. We eat vegetarian and drink 'natural' liquids, then we are receiving the Eucharist everyday....are we not?

In fact, IF you ones are going to receive "holy communion or eucharist" by any church, you should pick it up yourself, you need no one between you and God.

Thanks for your reply.

Scripture makes it clear (to me) that the church is not a building nor is it any particular denomination. The church is made of people all over the world who have discovered the love of God as demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

Scripture nowhere mentions that antichrist will take over the church (the body of Christ).

Rather the opposite is promised to the church by Jesus Christ himself. That the gates of hell will not prevail against the church (the body of Christ).

I wish you well neighbor.

You are welcome. hf

Jesus established one Church. You just quoted it..Matt 16:18. In that verse he made Peter head of the Church.

He did not say Churches. The correct term for heretics
is sects. There are 30 plus thousand Protestant sects
since Luther revolted from the Church.

God has never approved of the division and
disagreement, splitting of Protestantism or of their
man-made from the minds of men teachings.

Using another term for the word "church' again, BOC because Protestantism is plural, not one in belief. Here is the
verse on the anti-Christ taking over the Church.

Daniel 9:26-27
And after sixty-two weeks Christ shall be slain: and the people that shall deny him shall not be his. And a people with their leader that shall come, shall destroy the city and the sanctuary: and the end thereof shall be waste, and after the end of the war the appointed desolation. [27] And he shall confirm the covenant with many, in one week: and in the half of the week the victim and the sacrifice shall fall: and there shall be in the temple the abomination of desolation: and the desolation shall continue even to the consummation, and to the end.

I always ask, don't you wonder...

How are consuming grape juice and crackers a "remembrance"
of Christ's suffering death on the Cross? It isn't.
Our Lord was instructing the Apostles to do the same as
He had just done. Change bread and wine into His body
and blood. The Apostles would do the same, confect the
Holy Eucharist.

Jesus is the New Covenant Passover Lamb. The Lamb if you
recall in the Old Covenant was sacrificed and consumed.

The same in the New Covenant BUT in a greater way. We consume God. Our Lord is present, body, blood,
soul and divinity in the sacred consecrated host.

I mean you or your rituals no offence, but what you speak of here is also known as a definition of antichrist...

Antichrist: in place of Christ

A help to understand about the anti-Christ. When the anti-
Christ takes over the Church (only for a time), he will say the Eucharist is just a "symbol."

Who says that now?

Accept by faith (pray for the faith), believe in the Real Presence if you doubt.

I wish you well neighbor.

peace,

Thank you for your reply,

Yes, we agree. One church. One body. One faith, One baptism.

One. Not many.

But many members exist within a body. The foot does not look like the hand, but they belong to the same body. The arm does not look like the leg, but they belong to the same body.

It is a shame there are disagreements among the members within the body. It does a disservice to the head. Like a hand punching its self.

Some say the head of the body is Peter. Others say if the body is Christ's, then the head is Jesus Christ.

Some say the church is one denomination. Others say the body has many members. All in service to the head. That the head may receive the glory.

Debates often lead to contention and strife. This is the hand punching itself in the body.

Faith, hope and love do not lead to such things.

I wish you faith, hope and love today. To the glory of the head, which is Jesus Christ.

peace,

GLP
