Colonoscopy and stomach check, please help!
Please help! Has anybody ever had to also have a tube put down their throat to check the stomach at the same time? Does this hurt?

It's fine. The prep and anticipation are FAR worse than the actual event.

Re: Colonoscopy and stomach check, please help!
i'm having it done next month (just the stomach), they dope you up and it apparently goes very easy. Someone told me their boyfriend had it done, and said it was the best procedure he'd ever had done because he liked the feeling from whatever they doped him up with...
Afterwards you might have a slightly sore throat, that's about it.

Been there done that multiple times.

both ends.

DO NOT LET THEM SEDATE YOU!

There is no need to be "OUT" for either procedure.

They want to sedate you so you are not aware of how fast they are moving. If you are not sedated.. (only maybe take a 5mg valium) they have to go slow because you are aware. If you are asleep, you are just meat on the assembly line. They can do two people in the same time takes to do you if you are awake.

Also there is much less risk of injury..

There is no valid reason for total sedation for either procedure!!

Seriously you'll be fine but it's like having a piece of string licorice dangelling in your throat - mostly annoying.

My husband has had this done a few times (he has bleeding ulcers). They sedate you, it knocked him out and hardly anything ever knocks him out. He doesn't remember a thing! You won't even feel it. I'll say a little prayer for you. :)

I seen a commercial on CNBC the other that showed a camera in the form of a capsule. So I guess now or maybe in the very near future we will be able to just swallow a wireless camera if the doc's need to see something inside.

Has he ever tried Chitosan? You can purchase it at the drugstore. It's very soothing on the stomach, it's a natural fiber and it absorbs excess stomach acid and fats/grease in the food you consume. It has also been used on the battlefield in bandages that help the blood clot and wounds heal. It has settled my stomach a few times within 5 minutes of taking it. You have to drink a full 8 ounces of water with it.

Re: Colonoscopy and stomach check, please help!
I had an Gastroscopy last week. Just like with a colonoscopy they sedate you into a twilight state where you won't feel a thing if you like.
I preferred to do it without the sedation. Your gag response takes over for the first 30 seconds, but once the tube had passed your throat its unpleasant but bearable,
Remember your stomach is empty so once the gag response passes you don't experience any nausea and you feel fine right after the 10-15 minute procedure.

My sister went through this awake and regretted it. I had it done under sedation without any complications. She said hers was horrible...painful. I wouldn't go through it again without sedation. Not in a million years.

They do not treat you as meat on an assembly line!! The procedure is super easy and no pain is involved, at all!!! There is a possibility of being slightly nauseated after the procedure but thats it. They do this all day long, they know what their doing, believe me. There is no reason to be frightened, only good can come of it. Afterwards they can tell if something is wrong down there. My wife has been through many medical procedures and this is one of the easiest if not the easiest. So I hope this helps you out mentally, because physically its a walk in the proverbial park!!!

My husband just told me the most unpleasant part for him was the stuff they sprayed in his throat to numb it so he wouldn't gag on the tube. That's all he remembers. He said it tastes nasty and that's the worst part of it. He doesn't remember anything else.

Re: Colonoscopy and stomach check, please help!
I had one a few years ago, and they sedated me for it, it was not bad at all. The drugs they gave me were FANTASTIC, and I usually do not like how painkillers and the like make me feel. These were great. I was so scared before I went in there, they took my pulse and it was like 120, then they gave me the drugs and I chilled out in like 30 seconds and it was over before I knew it. No residual pain, no residual discomfort, just nothing. The prep sucked though. Although after cleaning yourself all out like that you feel pretty good a day or so after.

Agreed! I worried about it beforehand as well but it wasn't bad at all , when I came up from the anesthesia, I actually asked hubby if they were "ever gonna do it". My hubby laughed his butt off at that and said "you're done!!"
I was tired and a bit groggy for most of the day but other than that it wasn't nearly as bad as I had envisioned.

Best wishes to you AC, hope all turns out well with your tests, :-)
