Glowsticks as a survival item
What's the deal with these glowstick things?
Aren't they just about USELESS?

A few hours of glow and then you throw them away. You can light up your tent and that's just about it. They don't cast a beam like a flashlight. You can't continue using them like a flashlight and yet they take up the same amount of space.

Why do so many people include worthless glowsticks in their packs? I don't get it.

Am I missing something?

Glowsticks are immune to EMP. They work in the rain/underwater.

Flashlights wouldn't be affected by EMP, either.

Can't see why I would want to make a glow underwater.
The rain? Very few flashlights can't take rain.

It depends on the circuitry. Its probable most of them will be damaged, batteries too.

I really wouldn't bet my only light source on it.

Because most people who prepare for disaster do not expect teotwawki. They plan for 72 hours of emergency. This is because they expect the gubmint to save them.

Circuitry??? Dude, it's a flashlight. Bulb. Batteries. Some wire and an on/off switch.

EMP fucks with computers and circuit boards.

Batteries are not affected. If you have a dead battery and want to put some charge on it, run wire from the - end to the - on a car battery. Touch the + to the + terminal, and when it gets warm remove it. You'll have a charged battery. It works a couple times, but after that it could burst the case.

Glow sticks exist so you can find a flashlight or batteries in the dark. And because if you break them open and splatter that shit on each other, it makes sex in the dark more fun....

If you have them add them to your bugout bag or home kit. But don't go out of your way to buy them. Instead a good flashlight, headlight or one of those flashlight that charge by shaking them

SHTF scenario it would be quite logical to assume there may be military checkpoints on the roads with hand held metal detectors to stop weapons moving around.

I got a bunch of these little 2 dollar led lanterns about the size of your thumb once, thinking I'd just throw them away when the battery ran out.
They are the handiest bit of kit I think I've lucked onto, the battery lasts for days even on all the time.
They're great to tie over your bivi entrance, or near where you piss outside your campsite.
Yeah I'm raving now, but they're pretty fucking handy.

Do you guys know glowsticks contain hydrogen peroxide, which could be used as an emergency disinfectant.

It could also be used to start a chemical fire if you have certain other chemicals and are soaking wet and cold.
