Neither of mine were jaundiced and they never lost a bit of weight either after birth. Mine gained weight (1-2 oz. within a day) and kept on getting up. For every horror story, there are 50 happy ones. I have mild high blood pressure too, and never got pre-eclampsia. But then again, I had a good nutritionist advising me as well as common sense and good perinatologists handling my care.

The child gets oxygen as long as it is attached to the mother. And kids have a natural reflex to prevent water going into the lungs (this reflex is developed far better than with adults, it is a reflex you loose after a couple of months).

Yep, babies don't breathe until they are exposed to air. So no breathing happened underwater. But most people are ignorant of birth so I am not surprised some think the baby sucked in water.

So OP, according to your theory you must run around in the elements without clothes or shoes then right because otherwise you wouldn't be natural, you would be requiring some assistance for your survival. You must also use no air conditioning or heating correct? You catch your own food using maybe a stick or rock and eat it raw correct? I think your theory is a bit flawed. I think the human race has survived because of our advanced brain, not our physical attributes.

Why are so many personally offended by the concept that natural selection "Had" a way of keeping the gene pool clean? Look, I have shitty eyesight. I am farsighted with a +5.50 in each eye. I am very thankful for my glasses and the miracle of modern optometry.

In the old days, I would have tripped over something and impaled myself, or been eaten by something that I didn't see coming. Guess what? I wouldn't have passed my shitty eyesight to the next generation then. As it stands, 2 of my 3 children also have to have their shitty eyesight corrected by the miracle of modern optometry.

The OP is suggesting that if natural selection was allowed to take hold of humanity in a pure way, the survivors would be a much more robust, fit, and well adapted species... as we once were in years long past.

To the females who had a c-section and the posters delivered by c-section: realize that you're continuing, like myself, to pollute the gene pool by passing on crappy genes to your children and grandchildren.

There was no dispensing medical advice. What drugs are put into the mothers body at the time of birth also go into the babies body. This is very hard on a newborn's liver, brain and other organs.
It doesn't take an expert to give birth although there are high risk pregnancies that need special help. If you are really interested you should read up on it?

Did I say the cord had to be cut immediately? Um no..I said it needed to be "soon"....and I thought this was a video of a woman "giving birth alone"....no one to help with cutting the cord.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong....and if you think sounding "gurgly" is ok.....well I'm sorry but you are wrong...the longer that fluid is there, the more chance the baby has of getting really sick, like pneumonia, which could be fatal for an infant.

There is no "right or wrong" really. It's up to the mother...I'm just saying that I would much rather have something to suction my baby's mouth and nose and someone there to cut the cord, ect. then to not.....and I never said anything about "spanking", when my kids were born that didn't happen....and I agree there's no need for it, but I do think its better for the baby's airways to be cleared asap, that's all.

Oh and your comment, "at least it's breathing"? Imagine if the baby wasn't and this woman was alone? That's exactly why, if given the choice, a woman should have at least someone with her. Being totally alone just isn't smart.

To add to that....more doctors are now waiting a few minutes to cut the cord. I actually requested it for all three of my kids and guess what? They all had mild jaundice, so delaying cutting the cord does NOT prevent that!

Baby did need help clearing out it's nose and throat and seemed to have difficulty trying to cry because of it. Most midwives have little bulb syringes and use them, just like the attending nurses do at the hospital.

You don't necessarily 'need' a c-section for a big baby.

I've had 3 homebirths that were 10 lbs. 2 oz, 9 lbs., and 9 lbs. 2 oz., respectively.

It takes about 20 minutes or until the cord is empty of blood and stops pulsing. Did he wait that long?

I cant remember for my 1st, but it was about 15 minutes or so for my last too. I remember saying and writing in my birth plans that I did not want the cord cut "until is stopped pulsing"

People with way more credentials than the cunt above that likes to converse to me (and me alone it appears ) in bold handled my care, which was minimal, because baby and I were healthy to begin with from start to finish. If stadol makes me a bad person, then whatever. I had no pain, and my kids were healthy. Not like the crazy chick that showed in a panic to the hospital with a kid she had in her livingroom in a kiddy pool that was wheezing because it had aspirated amniotic fluid and meconium.

Like I said, hippie moms know best. You guys win, now forget about healthy me and my healthy spawn damaged by a healthy birth and pain management.

As for us "crappy gene" ladies who have had c-sections, our babies were MEANT TO BE for the simple fact that GOD PLACED THEM IN OUR WOMBS and allowed medical technology to help us deliver them safely!

as a woman..I have always found birth to be creepy. I feel disrespectful, because I have the utmost love and respect for my mother and all others out there who are doing good...

Awww, we have another "If everything went just perfect for me, it MUST be someone else's fault or doing that caused THEIR case to not be perfect."

In my case, the agony of a baby stuck in my tailbone for 20 hours while contracting the head INTO MY TAILBONE, (hence the need for a csection) was more agony than I can ever explain.

Sorry, sometimes women DO need help and your invisible badge of honor should be worn proudly, but not used to judge other women who didn't pop babies out like it was a bad case of constipation.

But like the other poster, if it hadn't been for the advancement of medical methods, I too would have died when my son was in fetal distress (he was 9lb, I have a tipped pelvis). So, according to you, me, my son and 2 daughters should not be here, dirtying up the gene pool, huh? Think before you post.
