Re: Why are humans the only species that drinks milk past infancy?
We aren't. We are just the only species that is able to procure it for ourselves.

Cats will happily drink it if it's given to them. So will dogs. Horses will, too; as well as goats. As well as racoons and opposums, which I also have seen drink milk quite happily.

Provide it for them, and many animals happily consume it.

But... the real secret to our dominance is our ability to OBTAIN it.

very undereducated statement op, quite invalid, some greater monkeys including the orangutan breastfeed to the equivalent of 20 human years old, and only when they leave the comfort of their mother as ranging adults do they stop breastfeeding

We're the only species to mix KoolAide for ourselves... or Mango flavored Tang (something I had in Saudi Arabia). We also do a fucktonne of things differently from other animals as well. We shave our body hair. We drive cars. We build nuclear power plants in flood prone areas.

We make chairs and computers.

But these "it ain't natch-rul!" people never seem to want to give up their chairs or their computers, despite trees not growing as chairs nor oil popping out of the ground as a computer.

You know why animals dont drink milk after they have been weaned from the breast?

They are out of fuckin milk!

If you dont think animals would not drink milk after being weaned from the breast, just watch your cat next time you eat a bowl of coco puffs.

He'll straight dry hump your leg for a chance to lick your spoon.

Your comment on "cooked meat" is hilarious!!! I had this picture of a grizzly bear with a Zippo, accidently starting a forest fire when he tried to start a cooking fire....

Not all of us have the ability to digest those sugars. It's not uncommon for other mammals to become lactose intolerant after infancy either.

Our development of the lactose-tolerance gene was a boon to civilization... resulted in stronger, healthier human beans.

Re: Why are humans the only species that drinks milk past infancy?
Are you aware that you can guess the average litter or birth number of a mammal by how many nipples the mothers have?

Elephants = 2 nipples = 1 calf
Horses = 2 nipples = 1 foal
Cats = 8 nipples = 4 kittens
Goats = 2 nipples = 1 kid
Humans = 2 nipples = 1 baby

The standard for mammals is half the number of babies as they have nipples.

There's one animal alone which deviates from this norm: The Cow. The standard bearing for cows is one calf, yet they have four nipples. Meaning that theoretically, they produce twice as much milk as necessary for the feeding and care of their offspring.

Additionally, raw cow's milk contains the enzymes that most humans require to digest the milk. Although most other milks also contain the enzymes, they taper off over time; but they remain constant in cow's milk.

Just a few things to ponder, with regards to the interaction between milk and human beans (as the AC so quaintly put it).
