20 Year Old Man Paralyzed after Police Tasing | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1305765 06/29/2011 03:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The cops here lock them up in the drunk tank to sober up. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1075612That is how it used to be handled in the US. OP - What is the character of the young man in general? Is he an obnoxious, belligerent, dangerous type? Aggressive? |
| LeConnea (OP) User ID: 1397439 06/29/2011 03:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Assuming the information presented is factual, I would say BOTH the police and the victim were WRONG. Why? Quoting: Charlie Frost1. The victim was not responsible for their actions - in this case the negative consequences of being drunk in public. Unfortunately for them the consequences were dire and permanent. 2. Assuming the use of a taser was justified, the Police failed to assess the dangers of the situation in regard to the environment contributing to unreasonable harm to the victim. I have noticed that the use of tasers by the police is often for efficiency/productivity purposes. Instead of negotiating with a suspect for an hour, or calling in backup in the form of more police resources, tasers provide a more efficient (and arguably safer) means of apprehending suspects. Basically it has become a convenience tool instead of a tool appropriate for the situation. The information in my post is as factual as I can determine at this point based on what I heard from my family but I am not in direct communication with his parents, and what I say is not representative of them in anyway and is only my opinion. I probably shouldn't have posted at all, but I am human and was having an emotional reaction and in my helplessness, wanted to help in some way, however small. i'm trying very hard not to play the blame game or demonize anyone. It's just a sorry situation. I feel for everyone involved and just continue to pray for them. There is a lot of insight in your response. It does appear as if the taser is becoming a tool of convenience to expedite situations. Patience or lack thereof could make all the difference. |

It's also what happens when you act like a drunken asshole in public. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1437365. . . not in my day, back when the Christians were in charge. Back then the peace officers came with the paddy wagon, threw them in, hauled them off to the klinker, and locked them up until morning, and that was that, outside of probably a fine, but i donot even think they did that . . . Police service was all tax-paid. Is that ok with you, asshole shill? |
| LeConnea (OP) User ID: 1397439 06/29/2011 03:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've said this plenty of times on here, but for the record, I've been tazed by the police at least twice that I can remember. Quoting: 1985 1176313The first time it happened, I was only like 21 years old or something and was screamin' my head off, and because of THAT, about a half-dozen sheriff's came into my cell, handcuffed me to the ground and stuck a tazer to my spine for about a good 30 seconds or more.....i STILL have the scar to prove it! This was NE Ohio though I cant disclose the exact location for fear of realiation for making themm look so bad. I'm sorry for your misfortune and hope you came out of it okay. Did the taser leave behind any permanent damage other than the scar? Does it still ever hurt or cause any problems? |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 989297 06/29/2011 03:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is a good thing BRIEF was such a law abiding kid that he never consumed alcohol underage. Of course, when I got caught by the cops for booze, they simply took the alcohol (and kept it) or told us to pour it out while they watched, or (on 2 occasions) wrote it up. No cop ever felt the need to shoot me or taze me or beat me. But cops were a different breed. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1448174 06/29/2011 03:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If it was one of my relatives and the cops did that (if the facts show they were at fault) they would be found dead of natural causes. Of course that's why the Cops around here are generally decent. They tried hiring some thug white trash New York Cops around here a few years back and one of them started right in trash talking, intimidating and bullying and at that point got the dogshit beat out of his ass. The victim that stood up against the piece of trash got arrested but the DA after reviewing the case dropped charges and the trash got FIRED and is back in the big city where he can treat Law Abiding Citizens like scum and get away with it. Then they had another one of the fools in a nearby town (another BIG CITY NY TRASH cop) pulled the Governor, he had no idea who it was but he was out harassing people. the town had already gotten several complaints about the asshole just arbitrarily pulling people and writing tickets, for instance swerving and he'd call it Wreckless Driving but according to the actual Law you have to cross the line, legally I can swerve all the fuck I want as long as I don't cross the line but he would just make it up to write a ticket. So he wrote the Governor a Bogus Ticket.. LOL, and he was talking down and being rude and disrespectful too. As you can imagine he is not working in Law enforcement anywhere and as what he did was a crime, well you know what happened. lol We just do NOT tolerate filth around here and consequently, we don't have to. |

He's only 20 years old. Didn't any of you ever make mistakes when you were young? Friend of mine just out of high school decided to get drunk and climb a bridge over the Ohio River...he slipped and fell to his death...another bought a new motorcycle and was going too fast with no experience on a bike and hit a stopped car and died...yeah I know young people can make impulsive dumb decisions, but I wouldn't automatically assume that the cops are to blame here. . . . yes, they were so helpful and all what with that nice tazer machine . . . |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 515220 06/29/2011 03:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, I have read it takes up to a year for a paralyzed person to come to terms with their condition. Instead of giving up, I hope he decides to fight. No one can say positively he will never have any recovery. With his entire life upended it will also take time for him to readjust his goals, purpose, etc. I will keep him and your family in my heart and thoughts. Let him know there are many strangers who care and are pulling for him. My nephew was blinded by MRSA when he was 23. When I saw him at a holiday gathering after his recovery he said it was so strange that he had to become blind to find happiness. That doesn't mean he doesn't want to see again, but he's okay with it in the meantime. He even moved from Texas to the northeast on his own. |

Quoting: BRIEFThat's the point, NOBODY knows what happened on that night except him and the two policemen. That's all the family wants, is to find out what really happened. What exactly happened? The police aren't saying much. The G.B.I. is investigating and who knows what will happen. The fact that the police are being so quiet is a little suspicious. If it was as cut and dry as so many of you are suggesting, then why aren't they defending themselves or saying the same things you are? . . . now a days they have to wait to see if the incident winds up on Youtube, before they start telling their lies. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1173336 06/29/2011 03:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Police are completely liable for his injuries because they MOVED HIM AFTER he fell. It doesn't matter whether he was drunk or what. As soon as they got down to him and the kid was still lying on the ground, they should have immobilized him. That's STANDARD procedure for people who take a fall like that, especially if they aren't moving about after the fall. That Police Department is going to be paying for this kids health care for the rest of his life. In the end, once again, it's the taxpayers who will being paying for both the stupidity of the POLICE and foolish citizens. |
