Chilling: Christian Choate, 13, wrote letters inside his tiny prison saying he just wanted his family to like him

A boy of 13 who died in a dog cage after years of alleged abuse by his parents wrote letters from the squalid prison about how he wanted his life to end.
Christian Choate wrote: ‘I want to die’ on the paper given to him by his stepmother to scribble down how he felt.
In the handwritten notes, he said he simply wanted to be liked by his family in Gary, Indiana - even if they were ‘abusing’ him.

The disturbing letters emerged as child protection authorities admitted to a catalogue of errors in the years before Christian died.

His father was accused of attacking him the year before he took sole custody of the teenager. After that, the alleged abuse only got worse.

Christian’s body was recovered last month from a shallow grave in a trailer park near Gary, Indiana where he once lived with his family.

It is thought he could have been there for two years after his father Riley Choate moved the family away and warned them not to tell anyone what had happened.

He and Christian’s stepmother Kimberly Kubina now face a string of charges including murder, neglect and obstruction of justice. They have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.

The letters, released by the Indiana Department of Child Services, show the teenager spent most of his last year in a three-foot high dog cage.

Christian writes how he had to steal food when he was hungry because his family allegedly would not feed him.
He would only be let out to clean the house and was almost never allowed outside.

His sole means of entertainment appears to have been a pencil and pieces of paper given to him by his stepmother.‘Christian wrote of why nobody liked him and how he just wanted to be liked by his family,’ DCS records state, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Christian stated that he wanted to die because nobody liked the way he 'acted.'The records continue: Christian's writings detail a very sad, depressed child who often wondered when someone, anyone, was going to come check on him and give him food or liquid. Christian often stated he was hungry or thirsty.

very difficult no to argue for the death penalty for the so-called 'parents.'

i'm sad that i read this here; however, i'm going to give it 5 stars to enlighten people that child abuse is rampant and horrific. and all of us together can work to stop it. a call to your local children and family services is anonymous. you don't have to give a name (unless you're a mandated reporter such as a social worker or police, etc).

so: don't you be the adult who could have saved a child's life; be the adult who did.

This is one of the many reasons I left law enforcement. God-damned red tape!

How in the fuck, in an advanced society, can something like this happen? Right under the noses of the DCS workers who were supposedly investigating his abuse!
I guess they are more interested in removing children from homes that can afford to pay fines and pay for counseling than to remove a truly abused child from a poor home that can't afford the extortion scheme!
I got to the point that if I didn't quit, I was going to start dispensing justice on the spot. I got so tired of seeing battered women and children cover for their abusers as soon as I show up......I could fucking explode reading this!
Now they're facing the death penalty???? Too fucking easy. A lethal injection is too good for these scum. I say lock them in a cage for weeks at a time....As a matter of fact, I say hook the cage up to an electric outlet and give them a little pulse every time they fall asleep.

This country is fucked. The system is broken and fails everyone it is supposed to protect.

Some things should go unrepeated. There is no lesson here; since most humans don't do this.
Next time, try to just let it go, and don't spread such pollution.

He's better off dead.

They had an inch thick file outlining "alledged" abuses and left him there!
Wait until it happens to you or someone in your family and see if you want to just let it go you ignorant fuck!

Maybe a nosey neighbor who would harrass them about it how they treated their son would have done more good in this case than calling child protective services. Typical government laziness and incompetence. Which is why if people didn't count on government, they'd have more of an individual sense of responsibility for their neighbors. Counting on government to do everything is often fatal as we see here.

In what respect did the government take care of anything in this case? Is this what you think government should do - get a huge budget, pay a bunch of lazy people to do nothing? That's why we need to cut back on government - because it gets fat lazy and incompetent no matter what the situation. Government doesn't work, literally. I used to be one of those so I know from experience.

The government did nothing, dufus. It never does anything for our well being. Have you ever met a bureaucrat?
I taught high school in L.A. for six months. The guidance counselors nearly made me go blind with outrage and disbelief. The entire administration was insane. They collected a paycheck, nothing else.

People can be out right sick. I am sure there are people out there like myself who wish things can be done of wish they could do something to stop such atrocities.

This is truly sad...

As a mandated reporter, I have reported abuse cases to Child Protective Svcs and to Adult Pro. Svcs., and I can assure you...this system of child/vulnerable adult protection, is in long-overdue, immediate need of a massive overhaul. Too many rights for the perps, too much red tape in these administrations.

Hey at least your showing you have a heart. I wonder about some of the people I read posting horrible things, supporting liars and the narcisists who make things worse. There are a lot of things wrong here in this world not just this country, and people either seem to be apathetic or they want it that way, I don't know why, but I try to be a good person. I'm just tired.
