SSDI- The Drain on Society

I am all for temporary welfare when someone loses a job. I am all for helping people who help themselves. I know that God forbid me and my family could be on skid row.I work in the real estate rental field and I had no idea how many people are on Social Security Disability. I call it the disabilty scam. These "kids" are put on SSDI when they are very young for behaviour problems or a lower IQ than clasmates, or any percieved disabiltiy the parents can find to start collecting free money. Then these kids grow up and still collect the rest of thier lives and live off the taxpayers.

For instance have a young couple early 20's both get over 500 a month on SSDI. They both also have full medical and get food stamps. Now they are a tad off a little slow. But both physically able to work. In fact he mows lawns all summer for cash, has quite the customer base built up. She builds furniture and does odd jobs. They both have smoke, have cell phones, cable and internet. A few months ago he tells me she is pregnant. So they are going to have a kid which will probably also be on SSDI.
This is not the only example. I have ran into probably 50 young adults on SSDI in our town off under 10,000. These people have never paid a dollar into Social Security and never will. I had a nieghbor in her 20's who was on it, and all three of her young kids were on it because of lead poisoning. Now why can't these people get jobs? Most of them work for cash so they are physically able. Why do they deserve a free ride the rest of thier lives?

Now I understand a severly diasabled child or adult getting benefits. But I think the standards need to be set a little higher. Most of the families that are on welfare have at least one child on SSDI. This is obsurd. There is a time limit on welfare, but these people will get SSDI until the programs runs out of money. It makes me angry when I work my ass off to get by and these people get free money, when they could work. I think this is a bigger travisty than welfare ever has been. So if I am able to retire in my 70's the money I have paid in will not be there. I sure had no idea this scam was this bad until I ran into these people in my line of work. Maybe if the Government kicked these people off the free ride it would keep the program solvent for the ones who need it.
