A true "White Tower", complete with every sensor that science allows us to build, powered by solar, wind, and geothermal.

That tower would contain greenhouses for food production, a water collection/reclamation system, servers housing the accumulated knowledge of man, housing for thousands of people, and an awesome "bridge" on the floor below the roof, for observing the beauty of nature for hundreds of miles in every direction.

20 million?? I would buy a boat and disapper with my son...would probably try to buy some property too in Positano, Italy if I still had some money left...

4) Donate to a few favored charities

5) Get the degree I wanted to get in college

6) RELAX. Maybe quit my job. Yeah, I'd quit and live off my investments and some rental properties and what not.

I would buy some land. Build a self sustaining house for my family and myself. Plant a garden and some fruit trees. Raise some farm animals. Save enough for the kids to go to college. The rest of the money would probably be spent on other family members doing the same.

I would buy 20 million items from the one dollar store and confuse their little minds.

Pay off my debts, buy a house with a garden so my kids can play safely / I can start growing food. Buy a shop to turn into a wool shop / coffee house... Help my partner to set up the Dojo he's always dreamed of running.

And have about $19 million left to pass on to someone else :P

No I would put it in a pile and burn it I hate money.

After you pay your taxes you are down to 10 million.

$10,000,000 at today's interest rates, in a "safe" investment (to protect your capital) is only going to generate about 2% per year at the moment, or $200,000. Pay your taxes on that and you are down to a spendable yearly cash flow of $120,000/year.

$120,000 per year is nothing to sneaze at, but a first year heart surgeon straight out of his residency beats you by about 2x.

You should be thinking about a lifestyle based on a spendable amount of about $120,000/year ... but of course with all your houses/cars/etc. bought and paid for.

A couple of friends have between "tried" to advise nearly 40 lottery winners (they are ceritified financial planners) and have just about thrown up their hands. MOST of those lottery winners are either broke or near broke within 10 years. (most actually within about 5 from what they tell me)

I would first buy my husband anything his heart desired. The rest would be negotiable.
