the flying wing anamoly has been there since they put SOHO into space. It goes by all the time.

its called a cosmic ray bloom. Occurs when highly energetic particles hit the CCD chips on the spacecraft. The reason it has wings is because the chip cannot handle that much energy in the short amount of pixels, so it "bleeds" out horizontally ( you will notice its always horizontal with the wing effect .

The tail behind it is the scattering of the energy behind it in the same fashion but the main bleed effect occurs on the "wings".

if it didn't bleed out, then it would fry those pixels and cause permanent damage, which can still happen if enough of these occur.

so wahts the summary of all this? can you explain it "preschool style"?
