Quoting: According to Camp Pendleton public affairs, the crash happened at about 11:30 a.m. in the San Mateo area of the base, near San Clemente. 10News learned the helicopter is a UH-1 Yankee. Amazing that the Marines are still using Hueys -- I remember reading when I was in back in 1990 that they were planning to use UH-1s until 2010 -- that date seemed so far away back then! It looks like they are going to use them well past that date. Just shows what a versatile aircraft it is. |
