But a lot of the oil that sits in the US would be very expensive to get to (read: Under the Rocky Mountains)...and there's no money for that right now.

The Bakken Formation is a mirage. Getting that oil is already proving too costly, and it requires almost as much energy to get it as is being produced. Right now, they are FRACKING the shale to get to the oil... that is not working out well, as the aquifers are ABOVE the shale formations, and fresh water is getting contaminated.

In Montana, and the Dakotas, the developers were planning for long-term production on most sites, but production is typically playing out within a year.

Bakken is a Paper Tiger-- not worth the effort.
