U.S. Rep. Ted Poe addressed the House floor Tuesday at 11 a.m. to speak about Beaumont police officer Bryan Mitchell Hebert, who was killed Friday night in the line of duty.

Poe's one-minute speech focused on the "black cloth of sacrifice" worn by law enforcement like Hebert.

"Officers like him protect the rest of us from killers like Nero," Poe said, referring to the suspect, John Wesley Nero, as a "scoundrel."

A funeral service for Hebert will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beaumont Civic Center.

Update: Bond on John Wesley Nero, the man accused of causing a car wreck that killed Beaumont Police Officer Bryan Mitchell Hebert on Friday, has been raised to $750,000.

Nero's bond originally had been set at $250,000, according to police. He is charged with capital murder. He remains in Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Hebert's family is hosting a press conference this afternoon to speak about the incident.

Previous reporting

As the week's routine police work starts up at Beaumont Police Department headquarters on College Street on Monday, officers will be engaged in the melancholy task of planning a funeral service.

Arrangements for everything from the venue, to accommodations and hospitality for out-of-town visitors need to be settled along with a host of small details and decisions to be made, said Chief Frank Coffin.

"We will be working on those logistics tomorrow," Coffin said in a telephone interview Sunday. "We are going to make sure all of our loose ends are tied up and we will get ready for the visitation on Tuesday and be ready to go with the service on Wednesday."

Bryan Mitchell Hebert, 36, died Friday after he was struck by a driver involved in a high-speed chase.

His funeral has been set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beaumont Civic Center. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Broussard's in Nederland.

The officer was trying to lay out the spike strips, when this loon hit his patrol car head on, which the policeman was standing behind his patrol car with the trunk open and it caused his car to run over him. They were trying to apprehend him for assault of his mother and grandmother, right before this happened.

This affects everyone, because of how this officer was killed. They were doing a high speed chase of this person. It may change the laws somehow. Just thought someone would like to "attend" this, since it's national news.

It's really sad!
Out of state officers there as well.

Not all 'police officers' are corrupt..

See: [link to oathkeepers.org]

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, veterans, peace officers, and firefighters who will fulfill the oath we swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.

Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and we will not obey unconstitutional (and thus illegal) and immoral orders, such as orders to disarm the American people or to place them under martial law and deprive them of their ancient right to jury trial.

We Oath Keepers have drawn a line in the sand. We will not “just follow orders.”

Our motto is “Not on our watch!”

If you, the American people, are forced to once again fight for your liberty in another American Revolution, you will not be alone. We will stand with you.

OATH KEEPERS: ORDERS WE WILL NOT OBEY

1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.

2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people

3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal.

4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.

5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.

6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.

7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control."

9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.

10.We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.
