Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
Most people should have noticed by now that the solar cycle and the behaviour of Sol has changed and no one knows why. There's a plethora of articles and information out there on this since the solar minimum began. Here's just a few which show the effects of these changes. These are all very interesting and put them all together and ask yourself, what the fuck is going on?

Quiet suns come along every 11 years or so. It's a natural part of the sunspot cycle, discovered by German astronomer Heinrich Schwabe in the mid-1800s. Sunspots are planet-sized islands of magnetism on the surface of the sun; they are sources of solar flares, coronal mass ejections and intense UV radiation. Plotting sunspot counts, Schwabe saw that peaks of solar activity were always followed by valleys of relative calm—a clockwork pattern that has held true for more than 200 years: plot.

The current solar minimum is part of that pattern. In fact, it's right on time. "We're due for a bit of quiet—and here it is," says Pesnell.

In 2008, the sun set the following records:
A 50-year low in solar wind pressure

A 12-year low in solar "irradiance"

A 55-year low in solar radio emissions

"The average pressure of the solar wind has dropped more than 20% since the mid-1990s," says Dave McComas of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. "This is the weakest it's been since we began monitoring solar wind almost 50 years ago."

[link to science.nasa.gov]

Flagging solar wind has repercussions across the entire solar system—beginning with the heliosphere. The heliosphere is a bubble of magnetism springing from the sun and inflated to colossal proportions by the solar wind. Every planet from Mercury to Pluto and beyond is inside it. The heliosphere is our solar system's first line of defense against galactic cosmic rays. High-energy particles from black holes and supernovas try to enter the solar system, but most are deflected by the heliosphere's magnetic fields.

"The solar wind isn't inflating the heliosphere as much as it used to," says McComas. "That means less shielding against cosmic rays."

In addition to weakened solar wind, "Ulysses also finds that the sun's underlying magnetic field has weakened by more than 30% since the mid-1990s," says Posner. "This reduces natural shielding even more."

Unpublished Ulysses cosmic ray data show that, indeed, high energy (GeV) electrons, a minor but telltale component of cosmic rays around Earth, have jumped in number by about 20%.

But any extra cosmic rays can have consequences. If the trend continues, astronauts on the Moon or en route to Mars would get a higher dose of space radiation. Robotic space probes and satellites in high Earth orbit face an increased risk of instrument malfunctions and reboots due to cosmic ray strikes. Also, there are controversial studies linking cosmic ray fluxes to cloudiness and climate change on Earth.

Cosmic Rays Hit Space Age High

In 2009, cosmic ray intensities have increased 19% beyond anything we've seen in the past 50 years," says Richard Mewaldt of Caltech. "The increase is significant, and it could mean we need to re-think how much radiation shielding astronauts take with them on deep-space missions."

July 15, 2010: NASA-funded researchers are monitoring a big event in our planet's atmosphere. High above Earth's surface where the atmosphere meets space, a rarefied layer of gas called "the thermosphere" recently collapsed and now is rebounding again.
Layers of Earth's upper atmosphere. Credit: John Emmert/NRL. [larger image]

"This is the biggest contraction of the thermosphere in at least 43 years," says John Emmert of the Naval Research Lab, lead author of a paper announcing the finding in the June 19th issue of the Geophysical Research Letters (GRL). "It's a Space Age record."

The collapse happened during the deep solar minimum of 2008-2009—a fact which comes as little surprise to researchers. The thermosphere always cools and contracts when solar activity is low. In this case, however, the magnitude of the collapse was two to three times greater than low solar activity could explain.

Sun Headed Into Hibernation, Solar Studies Predict

Enjoy our stormy sun while it lasts. When our star drops out of its latest sunspot activity cycle, the sun is most likely going into hibernation, scientists announced today.

More to come.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
One only had to see the spaceweather.com pages this year to notice that the increase in aurora and noctilucent aka electric blue clouds have increased in both frequency and have been sighted in places they've never been seen before.

July 2011 has been a banner month for these mysterious clouds. Normally confined to polar latitudes, NLCs have been sighted in recent nights as far south as France in Europe and Kansas and Colorado in the United States.
[link to spaceweather.com]

They are the highest clouds in the Earth's atmosphere, located in the mesosphere at altitudes of around 76 to 85 kilometers (47 to 53 mi). They are normally too faint to be seen, and are visible only when illuminated by sunlight from below the horizon while the lower layers of the atmosphere are in the Earth's shadow. Noctilucent clouds are not fully understood and are a recently discovered meteorological phenomenon; there is no evidence that they were observed before 1885.

Noctilucent clouds can form only under very restrictive conditions; their occurrence can be used as a sensitive guide to changes in the upper atmosphere. Since they are a relatively recent classification, the occurrence of noctilucent clouds appears to be increasing in frequency, brightness and extent. It is theorized that this increase is connected to climate change.

Noctilucent clouds are first known to have been observed in 1885, two years after the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa.

Noctilucent clouds are generally colourless or pale blue although occasionally other colours including red and green occur.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
Increase in aurora correlates with an increase in energetic particles getting inside the inner solar system and making it into our atmosphere. The normal cause of aurora are geomagnetic storms caused by a CME and yet there have been MANY such aurora displays during the deep minimum where there were no CMEs or any sort of activity from the sun to cause them.

When the ejection is directed towards the Earth and reaches it as an interplanetary CME (ICME), the shock wave of the traveling mass of Solar Energetic Particles causes a geomagnetic storm that may disrupt the Earth's magnetosphere, compressing it on the day side and extending the night-side magnetic tail. When the magnetosphere reconnects on the nightside, it releases power on the order of terawatt scale, which is directed back toward the Earth's upper atmosphere.

This process can cause particularly strong auroras in large regions around Earth's magnetic poles. These are also known as the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) in the northern hemisphere, and the Southern Lights (aurora australis) in the southern hemisphere.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

An aurora (plural: auroras or aurorae) is a natural light display in the sky, particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere (thermosphere). The charged particles originate in the magnetosphere and solar wind and are directed by the Earth's magnetic field into the atmosphere.

the noctilucents are moisture from the vapor barrier the bible called the firmament that was taken down in an act of war, producing the 40 days of rains, is being put back up. All the rest with the sun is being in the photon belt since 1992, and activities of star fleet who modulate such things. The long min is their doing.

All these changes, the solar cycle, the sun's behaviour, increase in atmospheric phenomena like noctilucent clouds, aurora displays, airglow and plasma/lightning orbs, climate changes, are all the effects of something that is happening. So what exactly is happening?

A new maunder minium at best.
A fraking ice age at worst.

I really hope NASA are just hedging their bets as I get the impression latley that they havn't got a clue.

If the past two winters are anything to go by, British infrastructure is going to be seriously damaged over the next decade. The country is not built for prolonged cold snaps.
Where I live all road improvments have had to stop and only emergency repairs can be carried out due to all te road rebuilding that had to take place after the month long ice "age" we had over christmas.
Also I'm getting to old for the cold, time ton head for africa.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
But the influence of space weather on the terrestrial weather is less well understood. The solar wind, and the magnetic clouds that sometimes accompany it, contain huge amounts of energy. Much of this is absorbed or deflected by the Earth's magnetic field.

But from time to time, magnetic clouds can temporarily lower our defences. During these so-called Forbush Decreases, more particles from the solar wind can get through and dump their load in the upper atmosphere.

It stands to reason that such an injection of energy could change the weather. And there's certainly evidence that this can happen at high latitudes near the poles. But the rest of the planet seems better protected.

Today, Il-Hyun Cho and buddies at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute in Daejeon, say they have the first evidence that the solar wind can influence the sea-level atmospheric pressure at mid latitudes.

*snip*

Charged particles are also thought to have a big impact on the rate of cloud formation, since their ionising effect can trigger water droplet formation

Cho and co say they are already looking for bigger datasets concerning Forbush decreases and their effects over wider areas of the planet. The evidence that space weather can affect our is growing. It'll be interesting to see what they find.

Original paper; [link to arxiv.org]

Take a moment to think on the implications. If charged particles from the sun and interstellar space are able to cause noticeable effects on our terrestrial weather then a changing climate and weather patterns can be caused by changes in our solar environment. And obviously any major changes to our terrestrial weather would be caused by any major changes in our solar environment.

But we also had electric clouds several weeks ago and a fine pic was printed by the local papers.

There is something wrong with the atmosphere, probley caused by the sun, and nasa don't quite know enougth to go public yet, or they do and don't want to panic the herd.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
No interest? Even with all this information which shows that climate can be affected in a major way by events not on this planet? That a changing climate is a precursor of major changes in our solar environment and not the result of human activity. Sure we may have some effect but overall in the scale of things, it's nothing compared to the major drivers of weather on Earth. Mainstream scientists are only now beginning to accept ideas like Henry Svensmark's where cosmic rays are linked with the formation of clouds in our atmosphere.

The climate and weather have always been complex and there are many factors involved in the process. We did not understand it all enough to accurately predict anything back when all that was accepted was the climate is only affected by processes on Earth. Scientists have began to look further out into space and to the unseen (energy and magnetic fields) and only now have realized that it's even more complex.

I wish I could see them. The most puzzling thing is they admit this is only a recently discovered phenomena, that it is increasing in frequency and magnitude and is now being seen in places where it's never been seen before in recorded history! And yet there is very little information or interest on this subject. It's incredible that this phenomena has NEVER been documented or seen before the 19th century.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
I think many people will ignore this because they are simply scared... They can accept human caused climate change but they cannot accept something they do not understand, something that is far bigger than them in scale and existence. Fear and apathy. It's understandable to fear something you do not understand, something which we can never "fix" so they cling to the explanation provided for them that humans are causing the climate change and that it can be fixed. But to continue to believe in fairy tales when there is information which shows they are false is simply willful ignorance.

The fact that the Fluff is strongly magnetized means that other clouds in the galactic neighborhood could be, too. Eventually, the solar system will run into some of them, and their strong magnetic fields could compress the heliosphere even more than it is compressed now. Additional compression could allow more cosmic rays to reach the inner solar system, possibly affecting terrestrial climate and the ability of astronauts to travel safely through space. On the other hand, astronauts wouldn't have to travel so far because interstellar space would be closer than ever. These events would play out on time scales of tens to hundreds of thousands of years, which is how long it takes for the solar system to move from one cloud to the next.
[link to science.nasa.gov]

Eons ago, giant clouds in space may have led to global extinctions, according to two recent technical papers supported by NASA’s Astrobiology Institute.

One paper outlines a rare scenario in which Earth iced over during snowball glaciations, after the solar system passed through dense space clouds. In a more likely scenario, less dense giant molecular clouds may have enabled charged particles to enter Earth’s atmosphere, leading to destruction of much of the planet‘s protective ozone layer. This resulted in global extinctions, according to the second paper. Both recently appeared in the Geophysical Research Letters.

“Computer models show dramatic climate change can be caused by interstellar dust accumulating in Earth’s atmosphere during the solar system‘s immersion into a dense space cloud,” said Alex Pavlov, principal author of the two papers. He is a scientist at the University of Colorado, Boulder. The resulting dust layer hovering over the Earth would absorb and scatter solar radiation, yet allow heat to escape from the planet into space, causing runaway ice buildup and snowball glaciations.
[link to www.universetoday.com]

These numbers confirm what astronomers have long suspected. The solar system is colliding with a vast interstellar cloud.

Most people think space is empty, but it's not. The "void" between the stars is crowded with clouds of gas. Clouds on Earth are miles wide. Clouds in space are light years across. They range in character from inky-black and cold to colorful and glowing-hot. Stars are born in clouds, and they hurl even more clouds into space when they die. Interstellar clouds are everywhere, so it's no surprise that the solar system is running into one.

The question is, what kind of cloud?
[link to science.nasa.gov]

However, because of the large flow of hydrogen from space clouds into the sun's heliosphere, the sun greatly increases its production of electrically charged cosmic rays from the hydrogen particles. This also increases the flow of cosmic rays towards Earth. Normally, Earth's magnetic field and ozone layer protect life from cosmic rays and the sun's dangerous ultraviolet radiation.

Moderately dense space clouds are huge, and the solar system could take as long as 500,000 years to cross one of them. Once in such a cloud, the Earth would be expected to undergo at least one magnetic reversal. During a reversal, electrically charged cosmic rays can enter Earth's atmosphere instead of being deflected by the planet's magnetic field.

Cosmic rays can fly into the atmosphere and break up nitrogen molecules to form nitrogen oxides. Nitrogen oxide catalysts would set off the destruction of as much as 40 percent of the protective ozone in the planet's upper atmosphere across the globe and destruction of about 80 percent of the ozone over the polar regions according to Pavlov.

Mysterious, glowing clouds previously seen almost exclusively in Earth’s polar regions have appeared in the skies over the United States and Europe over the past several days.

Photographers and other sky watchers in Omaha, Paris, Seattle, and other locations have run outside to capture images of what scientists call noctilucent (“night shining”) clouds. Formed by ice literally at the boundary where the earth’s atmosphere meets space 50 miles up, they shine because they are so high that they remain lit by the sun even after our star is below the horizon.

The clouds might be beautiful, but they could portend global changes caused by global warming. Noctilucent clouds are a fundamentally new phenomenon in the temperate mid-latitude sky, and it’s not clear why they’ve migrated down from the poles. Or why, over the last 25 years, more of them are appearing in the polar regions, too, and shining more brightly.

“That’s a real concern and question,” said James Russell, an atmospheric scientist at Hampton University and the principal investigator of an ongoing NASA satellite mission to study the clouds. “Why are they getting more numerous? Why are they getting brighter? Why are they appearing at lower latitudes?”

Somehow I doubt he cares nor would he have the mental capacity and intelligence to understand it. Media figures are merely puppets used by people pulling the invisible strings. The more people they can influence, the more "fans/fanatics" or followers they have, the further and more widespread the (dis)information travels and the better it is communicated.

The changes in the solar system will never be understood without understanding the greater cycles of human spiritual development. This understanding, combined with extended exotic scientific understanding about the cosmos and creation fit well together and explain why the sun is the way it is. At this level of astronomy, there must be extended levels of understanding beyond the realm of the physical in order to understand what is really going on, or what is going to happen to the Earth and life on it.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?

Great Post!! Do you think that as we move toward the galactic center next year, these effects will increase logarithmically?

We're not moving towards the galactic center, I'm not sure why people think we're somehow in any sort of special position in relation to the center...

"The Sun's position in the Milky Way Galaxy is about 2/3 of the way out from the center to the edge of the galactic disk, (and about 20 light years north of the galactic plane)."

I think you've been misled to believe some new age crap belief based on nothing more than wishful thinking and lies. I think that these changes are being caused by our solar system entering a more denser region of our local neighborhood, a changing interstellar environment would cause our solar system to undergo change also.

A good analogy would be that for the past 10,000-50,000 years we've been in a calm ocean with nothing much going on and now we're entering a more turbulent and stormy part of the ocean. Space is just another medium, like water, in which we travel through, but the matter in space is such low density that we cannot really perceive it. There's always SOMETHING there and depending on what and how much of that something is there, it influences our entire solar system in ways we're only now starting to understand.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
What I think is the cause may or may not be correct but no one can deny that these changes are occurring. Why are there not more people who are asking why after so many observed solar cycles our predictions have failed and the sun is doing something totally unexpected? What are these night shining clouds and why are they moving into areas they've never been seen before? These clouds have NEVER been observed before 1885!

What is affecting the sun? CO2? Human activity? I didn't think so. So what is? What can influence the biggest and most powerful thing in our solar system in such a way that it has even the most brilliant of scientists puzzled? The changes we're seeing on Earth are merely the cascading effects of changes going on within our solar system.

Very interesting!

Unfortunately this info is harder to make up sensational stories about or create crazy "Ozark cults" over, so sadly it will not get very much interest or discussion. :(

For the record, I think you are on to what is really causing the climate problems.

Thanks for gathering all that information and sharing it with us.

Glad you find it as interesting as I do. All these things separate might not seem like much, but put them all together and it all starts to make sense and one can easily see how connected all these processes are. There is a lot more information than this but this is more to the point and highlights what I am talking about more clearly.

Just like in evolution, a change to the environment around an animal will cause changes within the animal itself, a change in the solar environment will cause changes within it too. This is simple logic and based on a lot of research.

Re: Climate change, unexpected and strange behaviour of the sun and blue electric clouds. What does it all mean?
Nice job OP. But much of the info has been posted and those interested have read most of it. Nice that you have put it all together in one post.

I might also suggest that there are spiritual implications involved in all this. What effects will the new incoming energies have on our DNA for example. We see signs that the energies are effecting the rate of decay of radioactive elements etc. rken
