Red circle / halo around the moon???

Come on guys. I know that somebody here can explain this.

i see it in SE US right now.

it's a tight orange ring, not large like the photo.

Thank you for that link. It wasn't exactly the same but when I read it and saw the "halo effect" thing I did a quick google and I found a picture that's an exact match.

I don't know if that means that this is a blue moon but it's really neat. In a creepy way.

This isn't one of those earthquake related things, is it?

You should try taking some shots of it. :)

I've seen this one a bunch of times here in Florida. It's not a halo, but does have to do with the type of clouds in front of it. Kinda neat to see.

lol @ optical illusion (in the 1st link), might as well say everything we see is an illusion. the sun also produces a rainbow halo on occasions, science says ice crystals cause it. have seen it on a 45 degree day with not a cloud in sight. lol @ ice crystals. just like comet tails are ice...

since my '2nd sight' became active, always see a beautiful blue aura around the moon (around the same size as your pic). so for me the moon is always blue!

I tried but my camera isn't the best so I'm not sure how they came out. And now there's a freakin skunk out there so if they didn't work someone else is going to have to try. lol

Okay, only 2 sort of turned out.

I tried to hide the moon behind a neighbouring building for one of them so I could get the red better. They're not great but I tried.

No red ring around the moon down here in South Texas so I'm guessing its local to your region.

I've seen it - it's all related to atmospheric conditions and the amount of humidity in the air.

I planned on responding to each post individually last night and I'm so sorry I didn't.

I posted this at almost 1am here and I'm always asleep by 11. My eyes were gone wonky, my head was hurting and all I could think about was sleep.

It was very cool to see and I do really want to thank everyone who posted to share with me. I have read all the responses and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to comment.
