Anonymous Coward User ID: 1341176 United States 07/15/2011 10:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My 16 year old son has no direction. He won't play football this year, so I take the keys. Is this right? What the heck, he will get out of school at 4 and football would instill some discipline. He won't even work out with me. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1404819I told him that's fine and be his own person, but I know he's on a downhill slide. Teenagers? Why would you take the keys just because he wont play football?? So you FORCE him to play, he has an attitude about being forced to play and the whole team suffers. Give him his keys back and tell him if he doesnt want to play football after school, that is fine. But explain he's 16 and needs to have an after school job. And he probably wont work out with you cause you're a asshole . |

Why would you try and force your child to play a sport that he is not interested in? even if he played/liked it last year, his interests have obviously changed. Taking the keys away and doing this is just going to push him further away. If you really want to know what is going on in his life, stop being a jerk. People today, skip Sunday Mass, Sunday church for sports. It's very sad. I know they don't play football in Heaven. Spend time with him, be together, show him your love and support. Ten + timss better than a coach yelling at him. Our son broke his arm skateboarding the day before grade school football try outs he was planning to attend. thank you God, |

I wouldn't let my son play football, I didn't want to risk him getting hurt. He could go out for wrestling & still get discipline. Have him take adult ed classes at your local community college, this would help him prepare for college when he graduates from high school. vaccinefreehealth blogspot com The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child. facebook.com/graphixyourway |

If he would prefer to be on the debate team or chess club does that warrant taking away his car keys are you simply living vicariously through your son. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1404819I told him that's fine and be his own person, but I know he's on a downhill slide. Teenagers? he is smart.... football is a headbutting game and is quite stupid.... find another sport he might like.... force him and you will regret it. teen boys (15+) are directionless for some time maybe till 23!!! be patient with him and just begin to treat him more like an adult. this action will help to instill a more adult-like responce some of the time. Our society does not teach young men ... Most men in american are whimps and mama's boys.... they do not know how to do anything. so help him learn skills around the house... include him in repairs, decisions and other chores he will need to know as an adult. Talk more man to man. this will help him develope his sense of manliness.... from you! otherwise he will choose some of his equally stupid and directionless friends! you are just a tour guide, leading a child to adulthood. he is not on a downhill slide unless you keep lableing him that. He is at the most difficult juncture right now... child/adult. Hormones and physcial changes are real hard on him. it is time to stop being the type of parent that demands compliance, and time to become someone who listens to him more. Let him pose the questions. do not lecture! Be there for him. Many parents alienate their teens due to acting like they are still babies.... do not make this fatal mistake!! I have an 18 year old son ... my change is attitude has helped our relationship greatly. He is now turning towards my suggestions rather that running from my lecturing. he is the only child I have and I must do right. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1462585 United States 07/15/2011 11:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, by taking away his keys your encouraging him to stay in the house? Football sucks, im 18 and in the military and never had any interest in playing/watching football, stop being such a pussy just because he's not doing what you want, youll see hes gunna do a bunch of shit you dont like so learn to deal with this shit now. My parents were cool as shit with me, they supported me when i needed it, but i didnt leech, had a job sense i was 15. Taking away keys to a car that could get him involved in stuff outside the house is not the solution to your problem. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1351486 United States 07/15/2011 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ok, enough of the football bashing. It is the greatest sport known to man. period. -but if he doesn't want to play, not much you can do that wont backfire in some form or another... stay on him about getting involved in something he enjoys though, bored kids get into trouble. Well they all do really so good luck with all of that. |
