its users online in that split second your page refreshed, and how do you know a billion people didnt quickly pass by GLP for a split second in between your refreshes.

Well? shouldn't it be fixed or something? It looks silly when the Users Online is in the low thousands but visitors in the millions and increasing by thousands every minute.

Erm no? If Visitors today is increasing by thousands every minute, the Users online now should reflect by a big margin and not a few people. It's not like 1000s of people visit and close the page every minute without doing something...

Visitors Today is the click count, good indicator for ad companies.

Explain please, I'm not the best at how websites work.. all I know is that the numbers do not make sense.

I know another site that always has over 700 people online, but the threads don't move at all.

But very true indeed.

Each time you click on a thread, reply to it etc., each click is one visit.
Now the website could also show the unique visitors, but it doesn´t. ;)

Users online is..users online.

Visitors today are the count per unic ip nr, there are many more visitors because -like me-, i can just pay a visit really quck to catch up if any "real" doom is hot and if not i live inmediatly, maybe quick visit from my job pc or iphone.

The user online is the amount of users being online right this moment. Pretty easy.

And we also have the robots, the mislead by google, the ones that opens the browser and their syster had glp as start page and so on but thats another story.
