Has anyone ever heard one or seen one? Quoting: destiny watcherYou know, some kinda alien being seen, before it vanished in the woods or something and then took off in his loud space ship probably would have been interpreted as a banshee by yon primitive folk, oye? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6399 They described a warm, still summer evening suddenly rent by a strong wind and sound that was like a woman shrieking. That evening a neighbour woman died. She had previously stated that she saw a woman combing her long hair, sitting on her window sill. It´s said that only people of Celtic extraction can hear the Banshee. Story here of a Banshee in Ellesmere Port, UK I live in El Paso TX. Last night I heard a sound unlike any before. Similiar to the Ring Wraiths in LOTR. I am dead serious. It is said,I believe, that if you hear the Banshee scream and immediately mourn you can either prevent something bad from happening or lessen the damage. That is what I did. My mother was witness to the scream as well, so I'm not schizophrenic. Thank God. |

Quoting: Heavyheadfred ^^This, lol. Banshees are associated with 7 families of Irish descent. It's said that if you hear the banshee wail, a death in the family is imminent. The banshee is not always wailing, sometimes they are heard singing. I'm directly descended from one of the families. I've never heard one. Has anyone ever heard one or seen one? Quoting: destiny watcher yep I had one escape from someplace under my home a few months ago, they are coming up with the earth changes. I certainly have NO other idea what it was. I suddenly heard something vibrating in my kitchen next to the stove. I thought initially it was a pot with loose lid coming to boil, that was NOT the cause, the air itself seemed to be making the noise, over the counter, not the stove. Then the vibrating got louder but NOTHING was shaking and it was all in this one spot. suddenly there was a horrid screech sort of resembling a smoke detector going off. Then it all ended. there was nothing there to make that noise either. So I made a joke about the screaming banshee in my kitchen to friends. |

I haven't heard that definition before I just checked - apparently McDuffie mob - So LaniJane are you Irish or Scottish???? Either way it has been way too generalized over the centuries what with inappropriate appropriation of the Sidhe - any wonder they howl.... "The origin of the MacDuffie name is interesting and has given rise to much speculation. In Gaelic dub-shide or dudh-sithe means 'the black peace,' so MacDuffie can be translated as 'son of the black peace.' It has been suggested that this may refer to the dark robes worn by monks, but as the Gaelic word sithe (pronounced 'shee') can also mean 'magical' or 'supernatural,' the MacDuffie name could equally well have to do with 'black magic.' The word has even found its way into English in 'banshee,' from the Gaelic bean-sithe, the female fairy whose wailing and shrieking foretold the approaching death of a member of a family. It is by no means beyond the bounds of possibility that the hereditary MacDuffie priors of Oronsay had their ancestral roots in the remote pre-Christian past, as hereditary priests in the Iron Age or earlier. But of course, this must remain a matter of speculation. — Norman Newton, Colonsay and Oronsay, 1990" and "In the Highlands of Scotland are SEVEN CLANS that claim descent from the royal line of King Alpin I who was the 28th and last king of the Dalriadic Scots. This Alpinian family, better known as the SIOL ALPIN, is one of the least discussed and more mysterious of the clan alliances in Highland history. The seven families or clans that make up this confederation are the MACNABS, the MACGREGORS, the MACKINNONS, the MACQUARRIES, the GRANTS, the MACAULAYS and the MACFIES."
