Drug testing will be required for ppl receiving state assistance in Florida
<snip)
Under the law, which takes effect on July 1, the Florida Department of Children and Family Services will be required to conduct the drug tests on adults applying to the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. The aid recipients would be responsible for the cost of the screening, which they would recoup in their assistance if they qualify. Those who fail the required drug testing may designate another individual to receive the benefits on behalf of their children.

The only thing I don't like is this, "Those who fail the required drug testing may designate another individual to receive the benefits on behalf of their children." - that should not be a part of it.

Other then that, I love it! Hopefully other states will follow suit!

It's time to drug and alcohol test the legislature down there. Any drugs in their systems, blood alcohol over 0.08 and they go straight to rehab and they can only return to fucking things up after that.

this!
I have nothing against people who REALLY need assistance, I was one of those people once (Husband got hurt at work, workers comp checks were about 1/3 of what he usually made - sucky time), but I HATED it. We got off it as fast as possible.

What really ticks me off is- when we were on assistance they required work searches and such (good!), and the "rule" is supposed to be that if you don't find work after 4 weeks (I think its 4), then you have to do volunteer work to "earn" the $$ the state is giving you, and then after so long if no job? You're supposed to lose the assistance. Then why in the hell do I see people around me who have been on assistance for YEARS, who keep having kids, ect. Where's that penalty? But, I do know also if you have a "Good" reason, you are except from the work requirement. For example, when we were on assistance I was pregnant with my second (And by the way, I got pregnant BEFORE hubby got hurt - If I had known what was coming we would not have planned it!!) and was not required to look for work and work ( I did anyway) - so I'm guessing it is probably all too easy for people to get some kind of "doctors note" or something....

It sucks because there are people who honestly need the help, temporarily, and these leaches who abuse the system eat up resources that SHOULD be used for those who really need it.

If I was on benefits and I wanted to smoke some weed, I'd be pissed.

I agree with this but not totally. One way this could be done is for them to have to provide receipts accounting for every dime of the money they have received.

That's a good idea, but can be abused....I know people around here who use their FOOD STAMPS for drugs....they'll use their food stamps....buy the person food (usually at a discount - 1.00 in food stamps=50 cents worth, ect.).....hate to admit it but I used to live near someone who did this...., anyway...see what I mean?

That, and, how will they decide what *is allowed" and what isnt (not talking about drugs here.) In fact, I'm pretty sure they can already keep track of how the money is spent. I know when I was on assistance, I could log in online and check my balance and it would show a list of transactions- the stores I went to, how much at each place, ect. And, if cash is pulled out at an ATM that is showed as well. THAT would be a good idea - to not allow people to pull cash off like that. Everything people REALLY need can be bought at places that accept the benefits, I guarantee it.

idk how other states work, but in VERMONT, all benefits are put on a EBT card - that works just like a debit card. So, I guess if other states give out checks, then yes, having a way to track what people spend the $$ on would be a good idea. I'm just not sure how that could work.

Re: Drug testing will be required for ppl receiving state assistance in Florida
Well this is on track. What people are doing is using federal assistance to supplement their drug buying ability.

IE....either they trade their stamps (card) straight out for cash at reduced price such as 50 cents for every dollar. All they have to do is let the buyer use their card. Then they go get cash to get pills, or whatever.

Another way to look at is is the guberment is indirectly buying people their buzz.- If they didnt have $300+ in food stamps then they couldnt afford the drugs therefore would not use or would use less.

The problem is that when this takes effect, the addicts wont have the money, therefore youll see a rise in crime...I actually thing a huge rise.....but who knows.

Ya? Well listen up cunty, I live in Florida and im on unemployment because no one here is hiring. I smoke weed.

Those who fail a drug test for unemployment will have no other means of gaining income other then illegal means. Not to mention that what i do to my body, the government should have no say in. Not to mention the people who fail these drug tests, who will have that on record? Can other people access these records or does it go on your permanent record? Our Governer Rick Scott owns the largest drug testing firm in the US, but to avoid conflict, he sold all his shares to his wife. Here is a link showing why it violates the constitution: [link to thinkprogress.org]

here a link talking about how he sold the company to his wife: [link to www.palmbeachpost.com]

"He owned the company and transferred it into his wife's name,"

I get $225 a week for 22 weeks. That's less then $5000 over 6 months. Somehow your little fuck wit brain has been told that ma and the other unemployed are the real problem with this country and need to have our privacy invaded and put onto public record for all to see. You suburban house wife syndrome disgusts me.

I don't want a dime of tax money going to support their drug habits. This kind of policy is long over do. If people can't give up drugs for their children they need to lose their children. Our society is falling apart, maybe this will help.

+1

But have a plan for that, otherwise it's just making matters worse.

I hope all states follow suit too.

I'm sorry, partiers, time to pay the piper...no more free rides.

And stop with the transference by mentioning the banksters.

These are two separate issues, so address them separately.

This should have been in place over 25 years ago.

I agree with the testing requirement ^^. I think they should make not only require it for new applicants, but those who have reviews as well, for their bennefits. Unfortunetly, there will always be those who will find ways to decieve the system.

I was behind a gal at the grocery store, who bought $150 worth of food with her EBT card (food stamp card)...then she bought 3 packs of cigarettes with the cash part of her EBT card (that's the welfare money part) at almost $9.00 a pack, here in WA state. How do you not get pissed over that, as a tax paying citizen? Sigh.
