I have nothing against people who REALLY need assistance, I was one of those people once (Husband got hurt at work, workers comp checks were about 1/3 of what he usually made - sucky time), but I HATED it. We got off it as fast as possible.

What really ticks me off is- when we were on assistance they required work searches and such (good!), and the "rule" is supposed to be that if you don't find work after 4 weeks (I think its 4), then you have to do volunteer work to "earn" the $$ the state is giving you, and then after so long if no job? You're supposed to lose the assistance. Then why in the hell do I see people around me who have been on assistance for YEARS, who keep having kids, ect. Where's that penalty? But, I do know also if you have a "Good" reason, you are except from the work requirement. For example, when we were on assistance I was pregnant with my second (And by the way, I got pregnant BEFORE hubby got hurt - If I had known what was coming we would not have planned it!!) and was not required to look for work and work ( I did anyway) - so I'm guessing it is probably all too easy for people to get some kind of "doctors note" or something....

It sucks because there are people who honestly need the help, temporarily, and these leaches who abuse the system eat up resources that SHOULD be used for those who really need it.
