If Elenin is just some ordinary small comet, how come NASA keeps hiding info from the public?

Amateur astronomers are shooting pics of it but for the most part it has not brightened and is thus so far a non event. It is moving towards the sun on the horizon so it is also going to be hard to capture until it comes out away from the sun in OCT I guess you didn't watch the video on the first page?
