Isn't she purdy? Not sure of the variety, but I'm thinking it's one that I picked up from the local mennonite community here... I know it's a very tall grower.

The season started maybe a week or two before the fourth for me (which was my target date)- so I made it. Been bringing em in almost every day since. It's running down and end of season (mostly) for me now though. I dunno the garden at my parents I started later so it's just now coming in for them.

Obviously NOT a normal Tomato!

It's one of the large striped or pink varieties.

Re: The Prettiest TOMATO Ever!!!
I believe that is an "heirloom tomato" as in not modified or genetically altered by mass production. This same tomato was eaten hundreds of years ago, and the seeds preserved every generation. If i'm not mistaken that's the attraction to heirloom seeds. They are the same as hundreds of years ago, and you are eating a piece of history in a sense.

Re: The Prettiest TOMATO Ever!!!
Oh yeah I save seeds from most all my tomatoes and elsewhere as well (which I'm sure is how I obtained the variety).

Guy, I like 'Better Boys' alright but I'm having just too much fun to stick to only one variety. I did pick up a giant two pounder variety locally for seed recently, we'll see how that turns out next year. I plan on crossing it with some crosses I've already made.
(these)

This is one of my crosses...
something like (Bush Goliath x Jetstar) x Italian Tree
[link to i102.photobucket.com]
-which I do believe is the first Bush/Patio Beefsteak ever.

and the two watermelon pinks are something like
(Bush Goliath x Jetstar) x Cherokee Purple
[link to i102.photobucket.com]
[link to i102.photobucket.com]
The oxheart I picked up from a local old timer- it has a very fine flavor. I suspect it would make a very fine sauce tomato.

I just have fun with it.

Aw man. I miss gardening! We moved into the new house too late to get started this year, and next year I'll be deployed when it's time for planting. Oh well, maybe in 2013. verysad

Re: The Prettiest TOMATO Ever!!!
It looks like a sripey. If it is I think its a hybrid and cannot be grown from seed.

I grow heirloom German Martin and Orange Anna tomatoes. Even have some that crossed between the two. They are indeterminate (they grow in all directions) and will grow as long as they have warm temps with many blooms. Fruits are about 10" in diameter. If you ever have a chance to buy them I would bet most people would love them.

 Quoting: stella stevens

Ya know there was an interesting crop circle recently of the melatonin molecule. I found some things interesting:
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Protection from radiation

Both animal [49] and human[50][51] studies have shown melatonin to be potentially radioprotective. Moreover, it is a more efficient protector than amifostine,[52] a commonly used agent for this purpose. The mechanism of melatonin in protection against ionizing radiation is thought to involve scavenging of free radicals.[53] It is estimated that nearly 70% of biological damage caused by ionizing radiation is attributable to the free radical, especially the hydroxyl radical that attacks DNA, proteins, and cellular membranes. Melatonin has been suggested as a radioprotective agent, with the proposed advantages of being broadly protective, readily available, orally self-administered, and without major known side effects.

Now it seems to me that ionizing radiation would interfere with our bodies melatonin levels and influence things like our sleep cycles, etc.
