Found this story on Norwegian prisons.

"The cells rival well-appointed college dorm rooms, with their flat-screen TVs and minifridges. Designers chose long vertical windows for the rooms because they let in more sunlight. There are no bars. Every 10 to 12 cells share a living room and kitchen. With their stainless-steel countertops, wraparound sofas and birch-colored coffee tables, they resemble Ikea showrooms.

Whether they are mad, evil murderers or committing crimes of opportunity or need they are still humans.

Some prefer to rehabilitate and encourage a successful integration into society rather than punish excessively and crank out an even harder criminal that will unleash more crime and anger.

Does prison American style work, imho, only for those that are profiting from it.

One who takes the life of a killer is in my opinion, no better than the killer himself.

Wrong. This is why liberals are a danger, not only to themselves, but everyone around them.

Being "human" is dependent on acting like one. When someone decides (consciously) to kill someone, they invite that same judgement on themselves. If I steal $10 from you, how much should I return if I'm caught? What does it matter why I stole it? Is that your fault?

I despise neo-cons, but when someone asked a leading neo-con to define the ideology, the reply was: "We are liberals who have been mugged." I always liked that quote.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, you have yours, others think differently, neither is wrong, as you so very rudely insisted.

So who then judges the executioner. For he is consciously killing, just in the name of a law.

Those that you judge so harshly are brothers, fathers, sisters and mothers. Maybe not yours, but that does not change the fact that they have family, even if they have f*cked up their lives and need to be reintegrated into society, not thrown away like trash or turned into a lifelong criminal.

If you commit first degree murder, you should be held accountable with life in prison.

But, it is not my place to sit in judgement of whose life to take, if I do, it makes me less that the person that committed the murder. For I am supposed to have the intelligence to have risen above taking the life of another human being.

Must be something to sit in judgement of others so smugly.

By the way, throwing someone in prison will not get you your ten dollars back.

I've been mugged, deal daily with vagrants, huffers, beggers and crazies, it still has not made me think like that.

Perhaps I was a Buddhist in another life. rant
