Rotation reported in Jackson county...tornado warning until 9:15 pm Central.

Back towards La Motte Iowa seems to be the trouble spot at the moment...so in Jackson County Iowa...but in the northern half.

Gonna give the store a call, so they are aware of the high chance of a power outage, and have the action plan ready.

The sky is flashing frequently around here, in fact, I'm going to go have a drink on the porch and watch this roll in.

3 inches of rain reported in Stockton Illinois. The company I work for has a store in Stockton, and is prone to run-off flooding seeings how it sits between two hills. We had 6 inches of water in the store last year and had to shut the damn thing down....

Amen, some amazing lights up above at the moment. Have yet to hear any thunder yet though.

Really something....have yet to see any ground based strikes. It all seems to remain up the the sky above us.

Really is a sight to see. Really really fucking dark at the moment though....

The storm over in Jackson County seems to be moving faster than what the guys on the radio or the t.v. can keep up with. They had the original arrival time for Bellevue Iowa pegged at 9:13....but it is essentially on them now....18 minutes early.

26,000 lightning strikes on screen at the moment. Dude on t.v. just said "lightning strokes" though....and caused my wife to break out in laughter....

And he just said it again! "We kind of poke a hole up in the atmosphere" while trying to explain why rotation is being picked up all of the place in the warning area.

"You might be looking up at the sky and seeing some pretty strange things, wall clouds, funnel clouds" I couldn't type fast enough.

I've never heard Mr. Maitland (spelling?) mention such as what he was just talking about with "holes in the atmosphere". Just struck me as odd. For the record, no, I don't think HAARP is kicking our ass at the moment.
It was humid as fuck today, so this was to be expected given the fact that the temperature did not get past the mid 90's today.

Dude just said "You don't need to get on Facebook and tell us you are frustrated...it is our policy to stay on the air any time there is a tornado warning".

Hmm...I've been watching this red blob on screen...waiting to see if it is going to start dropping down....and it is.

Just stepped out to watch the lightning...both I and the wife agreed we have never seen anything quite like this. I've been a country or country-town boy since I was a tiny little shit (even when my folks lived out toward Chicago we were constantly out here in the sticks because this is where my family is from). The lightning strikes are as fast as muzzle flash from a machine gun. Never witnessed something so quick...and not a ground strike in my area, or any thunder. The amazing power of ma nature sure is something...

Well....back home now.

Dubuque County (Iowa) and Jo Daviess County (Illinois) are both under flood warnings....the tornado watch for the general area is cancelled (purportedly).

Flooding is reported in Jackson County Iowa, Dubuque County Iowa, and Jo Daviess County Illinois.

Apparently travel is not advised in Jo Daviess County. Highway 52 (in Iowa?) is closed according to the Sherrif's Dept. (not sure which county). Dubuque Iowa is also said to be experiencing localized flooding.

The weather guy just said that some folks have had to be rescued from vehicles.

Council Hills and several other towns received over 5 inches of rain. Stockton Illinois, 5 inches....along with several other towns.

Not good...

Thanks for the well wishes to all applicable folks. Made it to our "safe spot" for bad weather about 7 minutes ahead of the winds kicking up. I stood outside and smoked while the family was in the "ready to go to basement" spot. My wife poked her head out....and for the first time in her life got to feel the "winds fighting". First really warm gust, followed by cold....sequence repeated several times.
So she learned something new today.

Again, thanks. And I hope like hell this thing just fades out before it has a chance to imperil anybody regardless of the nature of the threat.

Update: Though the threat of any tornado seems to be over...apparently the threat of localized flooding is not. Just opened my door to smile at the sky...instead I'm gawking at the little grass strip that seperates the two apartment buildings. Lets put it like this....I could set a 1/2 pound bluegill to swim in it for a bit. Sheesh. We needed the rain...but I was sort of hoping it would be a bit more steady than what it is at the moment....

Three heavy rains here in western lower Michigan so far with more coming across the big lake now. About 2 inches and more coming

there's been a red triangle alert (tornado warning) in Iowa since early this afternoon showing up on the intellicast interactive weather map, the one that shows the strong storm cells and hail, tornado, flood warnings etc under storm alerts
