WITNESSING

I was the first person in my family to become born-again.

I'd heard about Jesus, read about Jesus, sang about Jesus, prayed to Jesus, believed in Jesus. I even LOVED Jesus.

I'd participated in all the rituals: infant baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, attended Mass, gone to confession, taken communion, sang in the church's choir... studied catechism, taught catechism... you name it.

Jesus was always "out there" somewhere, or someone in my mind, someone religion had taught me about.

Even though I loved Him, and believed in Him, I couldn't say I REALLY KNEW HIM. I couldn't say He LIVED in my heart.

I was NEVER SURE of being "good enough" to make it to heaven [for the record, NO ONE IS].

Religion had taught me TO BE AFRAID OF God and, sure enough, most of the time, I was AFRAID of Him.

In all my 21 years as a VERY TRADITIONAL Roman Catholic, and also having had considerable exposure to Seventh Day Adventism and Lutheranism, NO ONE EVER TOLD ME that I needed to INVITE JESUS INTO MY HEART.

Nobody EVER told me I needed to be born again.

Nobody EVER told me I needed to EXPERIENCE Jesus, His PRESENCE, LOVE and power inside me.

Nobody EVER told me I needed to lose my fear of Him, and TRUST HIM, REST in Him.

We neither studied, nor read the Bible. In fact, before age 10, I hadn't even heard there was such thing as a Bible.

It took a combination of three Baptist preachers to get me saved: Oliver Greene, Theodore Epp, and Billy Graham.

Thank God for the Baptist! They are relentless in preaching Salvation.

It's something that I appreciate to this very day: Even though God called me to minister primarily in the area of biblical prophecy, I see myself as a SOUL WINNER, first and foremost.

I rejoice as much today over each and every soul that RECEIVES Christ, as I did many years ago with the first person I ever brought to knowledge of the Savior.

I said all of that to say this:

I've NEVER WON anyone to Christ by asking them to switch religions.

I've NEVER WON anyone to Christ by criticizing or condemning them, or their lifestyle.

I NEVER WON any member of my family [and I've won nearly all of them: parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews] BY TELLING THEM TO FORSAKE PAINTINGS, STATUES, MEDALS OR ANY OTHER RELIGIOUS PARAPHERNALIA.

Never told them to stop praying to this saint or that saint.

Like Baptists, I focused on GETTING THEM TO RECEIVE JESUS, getting JESUS INTO THEM.

A PERSON'S MOST URGENT NEED, regardless of whether they're satanists, atheists, agnostics, Lutherans, Episcopalians, Baptist, Pentecostals, Catholics, or whatever... is TO RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST INTO THEIR HEARTS AS LORD, SAVIOR AND GOD.

Once Jesus GETS IN, all the other stuff gradually COMES OUT.
I remember mother had for years and years a picture of Mary in her bedroom. I never told her it was "bad", "idolatrous", or to get rid of it.

Upon inviting Jesus into her heart, she said "she'd had it for too long and just couldn't part with it". I said "fine".

Couple of years went by and one day she suddenly announced that she had gotten rid of the painting because she'd read in the Bible that it wasn't pleasing to God.

She did it ALL ON HER OWN.
A similar thing happened with my aunt.

She did it of her own volition, when the Holy Spirit, not I, told her to.

Too often well-meaning Christians try to usurp the role of the Holy Spirit, and FORCE or PRESSURE people to "give this up" or "give that up" BEFORE RECEIVING CHRIST
.

They got it BACKWARDS:
I don't care whether it's smoking, drinking, drugs, sex, adultery, religious images, or anything else.

We come to Jesus "JUST AS WE ARE", WE INVITE HIM INTO OUR HEARTS, JUST AS WE ARE: NO FALSE PIETY, NO FALSE PRETENSES.

When we do, Jesus takes over and CLEANS US UP.

Don't worry about what you've done, where you've been, how you've lived, or even about your surroundings.
Give your heart to Jesus. He does the rest.

Make Him your Lord, your Number One priority, and EVERYTHING ELSE will fall into place.
